Mealtime

Essentials
Spoons, Forks and Knives
When choosing a spoon for your baby the spoon head needs to be narrow and the
bowl should be shallow. This will ensure your little one is able to clear the food
off the spoon with ease. It’s helpful if the spoon head is flexible, as this will stop
your little one from hurting their teeth or gum when they bite down on the spoon
(which they’re going to do).

• Munchkin White Hot Infant Safety Spoon
When your toddler is mastering how to use a fork and spoon the cutlery needs to
have a wide, short handle as this makes it easier to hold. If you want your little
one to successfully spear the food with a fork and place the food into their mouth
without poking their cheeks, a stainless steel fork with rounded tines is a must.

Cups
When learning to drink from a cup, open cups are best. Open cups promote the
development of a mature swallow, which is something sippy cups don’t do!

Now if you're not ready to handle the potential spills from an open cup then you
can use a trainer cup or a cup with a weighted straw.

Bowls and Plates
Babies often knock over bowls and plates of food. Placing the food directly onto
the dining table or tray will reduce these accidents. But when you’re ready for your
little one to use a plate or bowl look for ones with suction caps on the base. The
suction cap will ensure the plate or bowl doesn’t accidently tip over. Alternatively,
silicone place mats are also a great option.

Smock
Meal times are messy! For our little ones to be great eaters we need to allow them
to play and explore all food. This means touching it and accidentally dropping it
on the way to their mouths. To ensure your little one’s clothes don’t end up
covered in food a smock is a must!

Sandwiches and Vegetables Cutter Shapes

When our toddlers become fussy eaters (which they ALL do) we may need to spice
up the meals. Sandwich and vegetable cutter shapes are a great way to keep
meals interesting and enticing for our little ones. If your little one is going through
this fussy stage give these a try!
