Load transfer
Loads on beams
• Own weight of beam

• Wall load

• Secondary beam load

• Slabs load
Own weight of beam
• gbeam = b×(tb – ts)×γc (KN/m)
Wall load
gwall = bw×γw×hw (KN/m) where hw = hfloor - tb
Secondary beam load
Slabs load

• Dead loads ( gslab=O.W+F.C ):

• Own weight of slab (O.W) = ts×γc (KN/m2)
• Flooring cover (F.C) = 1.5-2.0 (KN/m2) or more
according to the flooring material.
• Live loads ( pslab ):
• Live load value depends on the building type and
its function, (residential, office, hospital, garages
and others). In the residential buildings the value
of live loads ranging 2.0-3.0 (KN/m2).
Slab loads distribution
Slab supported on four beams
• long direction (L)
• short directions (Ls)
• Rectangularity ratio r = L / Ls
• One-way slab if ( r > 2.0)
• Two-way slab if( r ≤ 2.0)
Slab loads distribution
One-way slabs
•Slabs supported on one beam in case of balconies its call
cantilever slabs
One-way slabs
•Slabs supported on two parallel beams in case of corridors
One-way slabs
•Slabs supported on four beams (r > 2)
Two-way slabs
•Slabs supported on two intersection beams
Two-way slabs
•Slabs supported on four beams (r ≤ 2)
