1 SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

1.1 Introduction
This manual is considered part of the instrument and must be available to the
operator and the maintenance personnel. For accurate installation, use and
maintenance, please read the following instructions carefully.
In order to avoid damage to the instrument or personal injury, carefully read
the ”GENERAL SAFETY WARNINGS”, describing the appropriate operating pro-
cedures. Please contact your HUMAN authorised local Technical Service in the
event of instrument failure or other difficulties with the instrument.

1.2 User Warranty


HUMAN warrants that instruments sold by one of its authorised representa-
tives shall be free of any defect in material or workmanship, provided that this
warranty shall apply only to defects which become apparent within one year
from the date of delivery of the new instrument to the purchaser.
The HUMAN representative shall replace or repair any defective item within this
warranty period at no charge, except for transportation expenses to the point
of repair.
This warranty excludes the HUMAN representative from liability to replace any
item considered as expendable in the course of normal usage, e.g.: lamps,valves,
syringes, glassware, fuses, tubing etc.
The HUMAN representative shall be relieved of any liability under this warranty
if the product is not used in accordance with the manufacturer‘s instructions,
altered in any way not specified by HUMAN, not regularly maintained, used with
equipment not approved by HUMAN or used for purposes for which it was not
designed.

1.3 Intended Use of the Instrument


The instrument must be used for its intended purpose (see paragraph 2). It must
be operated in perfect technical conditions, by qualified personnel, in such [IVD]
working conditions and maintained as described in this manual, in the GENERAL
SAFETY WARNINGS. This manual contains instructions for qualified professional
operators.

1.4 General Safety Warnings


Use only chemical reagents and accessories specified and supplied by HUMAN
and/or mentioned in this manual. Place the product so that it has proper ven-
tilation.
The instrument should be installed on a flat, stationary working surface, that is
free of vibrations.
Do not operate in area with excessive dust.
Operate at temperature and at a humidity level in accordance with the specifi-
cations listed in this manual.
Do not operate this instrument with covers and panels removed.
Use only the power cord specified for this product, with the grounding
conductor of the power cord connected to earth ground.
Use only the fuse type and rating specified by the manufacturer for this instru-
ment.
The use of fuses with improper ratings may pose electrical and fire hazards.
To avoid fire or shock hazard, observe all ratings and markings on the instru-
ment.
Do not power the instrument in environments that are potentially explosive or
at risk of fire.
Prior to cleaning and/or performing maintenance on the instrument, switch off
the instrument and remove the power cord.
Only cleaning materials described in this manual may be used, as other mate-
rials may damage parts. It is recommended to always wear protective clothing
and eye protection while using this instrument.
All warning symbols that appear in this manual must be carefully observed.

1.5 Disposal Management Concept


The applicable local regulations governing disposal must be observed. It is the
user‘s responsibility to arrange for proper disposal of the individual components.
All parts which may contain potentially infectious materials must be disinfect-
ed by suitable, validated procedures (autoclaving, chemical treatment) prior to
disposal. Applicable local regulations for disposal must be carefully observed.
The instruments and electronic accessories (without batteries, power packs etc.)
must be disposed of according to the applicable local regulations for the dispos-
al of electronic components.
Batteries, power packs and similar power sources must be removed from elec-
tric/electronic parts and disposed of in accordance with applicable local regula-
tions.

1.6 Biohazard Warning


Analytical instruments for in vitro diagnostic application involve the handling of
human samples and controls which should be considered at least potentially in-
fectious. Therefore every part and accessory of the respective instrument which
may have come into contact with such samples must equally be considered as
potentially infectious.
The „BIOHAZARD“ warning label must be affixed to the instrument prior to first
use with biological material!

1.7 Instrument Disinfection


Before performing any servicing on the instrument it is very important to thor-
oughly disinfect all possibly contaminated parts. Before the instrument is re-
moved from the laboratory for disposal or servicing, it must be decontaminated.
Decontamination must be performed by authorised well-trained personnel, and
in observance of all necessary safety precautions.

1.8 Repairs

-- For all the operations described in this manual, wear latex


or nitrile gloves and wash hands thoroughly after comple-
tion of work.
-- Be careful with the sharp edges of the metal sheets after
removal of the covers.

2 INTRODUCTION

2.1 SERVICE MODE


This section describes the possibility to check individual modules and functions
of the HumaClot Junior operated by authorized staff using the service code.

2.1.1 ACCESS TO THE SERVICE MENU


The service mode is part of the installed software. Special number code grants
accesses for the service technician, to access the hidden service menu do the
following steps:
-- Switch on the Analyzer by plugging the power supply, the below message
will be displayed:

-- While the line is scrolling then it is the only possible way to enter the service
menu by entering the service code 22926.

-- If the service code was entered correctly this message below will be dis-
played:

! Note: Each keystroke is confirmed by a beep tone.

It is not possible to correct the service code.

To re-enter the service code the Analyzer should be turned off


then turned on.
By pressing the left and the right cursor keys you can select be-
tween test functions, calibration functions, and parameter func-
tions by confirm it with Enter Key

The Service Code is confidential and may not be accessed by unauthorized
person.

eter functions, by pressing on Right or Left cursor key you can select any of the

Photometer calibration

uring channel, close the light protection cap and keep the cap closed while
processing then press Enter key.

Mixer-test
-- Press Enter key when < mixer-test > is displayed.

-- The below message will be displayed after the Mixer-test is completed (The
below values are an example only), to leave this function press ESC key and
the motor will keep spinning.

Motor 0  The actual target value for mixer motor speed [rpm]
rpm 0  The present value of mixer motor speed [rpm]

-- Enter the target motor revolution value and confirm with Enter.
-- The motor will turn accordingly.
-- The receiving signal of the hall-sensor on PCB will displayed as the revolu-
tions.

Heating-test
With this function you can check the heating and the temperature sensor in the
thermal block.

before leaving the function put the heating back to 0% and it will switch it
off.

NTC: 54399  Present value of NTC temperature sensor [digits]

-- Enter the target heating power value [%] and confirm it with Enter.
-- The heater will start to heat up the thermal block according the selected
value.
-- The receiving signal of the NTC temperature sensor on PCB will be displayed
as digits.
-- Increasing values = thermal block is getting colder.
-- Decreasing values = thermal block is getting warmer.
-- When the test starts the heating will be turned off which means it will be 0%.
-- Enter a value between 1 and 100% and the heating will be switched on by
checking the pulse-pause relation.
-- By reading the NTC value you can check whether the temperature sensor
and the heating are working, if this value decreases while the thermal block
temperature rises then the heating is switched on.

Important:
In this mode it is possible to heat the thermal block up to 60°C.

Port A-test
With this function the serial port (Port A) can be checked, therefore special tests
plug which can be ordered as „service tool“.

-- The functions TxD => RxD will be checked (loop back).


-- After plugging in the test plug the buttons of the membrane keyboard can
be pressed and will be confirmed by a beeping signal.
-- If the serial port works the key code will be displayed in combination with
second beep.
-- With the Enter key you will start or stop repeat mode which will continuous-
ly transmit the code for the last pressed key to the serial port.

Port B-test
With this function the USB Port (virtual ComPort) can be checked and the com-
munication between HumaClot Junior and the Computer can be tested, There-
fore an USB Cable, a computer, a virtual ComPort driver and terminal software
are required. If the USB port works a character wise communication between
terminal software and HumaClot Junior is possible.

Keyboard- test
With this function the keyboard can be tested, the keys of the membrane key-
board can be pressed and will be confirmed by a beeping signal and shown in
the display.

Ext 5V-supply-test
The HumaClot Junior provides (5VDC) voltage for an external Barcode Reader
plugged at (RS232) port, for this test a (RS232-test plug) is required to check the
outgoing signal.

Nebenlicht test (ambient light test)


The HumaClot Junior photometer is equipped with an ambient light compen-
sation.

Example about the previous test:


-- Assume the target value for LED=100.
-- Press Enter key to confirm .
-- The Actual Bright value “B” will rise up  B=347xx
The Actual Dark value “D” should be stable  D=184
-- The measuring value should be the actual bright value minus the actual dark
value.
-- Light into the measuring channel with a lamp (without using an LED or en-
ergy saving lamp).
-- Depending on this amount of light the actual bright value and the actual
dark value will rise up.
-- Light compensation should keep the value of the measuring channel nearly
stable.
-- The measuring value should be the actual bright value minus the actual dark
value. The actual bright values − the actual dark value = 345xx.

Calibration functions
Calibration temperature
This function is intended to calibrate the thermal block temperature to a target
value of 37.4 °C, for detailed calibration process please see chapter 3.7.

This function is intended to load a default parameter setup from the memory of
the Analyzer, but this function will be processed without a 2nd safety query, so
any existing balanced cuvette will be deleted!

Parameter import
This function is intended to import a parameter setup from PARIMP.TXT file on
SD-Card.

2.1.3 QUIT SERVICE MODE


It is always possible to exit the service mode when the selection of service func-
tion is displayed, just by pressing the ESC key. As shown below:

2.2 USER MODE


The user mode in HumaClot Junior is known as utilities menu, which can be ac-
cessed by the user as well as the service technician. In the user mode the instru-
ment can be adapted to the individual needs and the instrument parameters
can be printed.

2.2.1 UTILITIES MENU


The utilities menu is part of the installed software and each Operating Software
has pre-installed procedures into the Analyzer. You can refer to the User manu-
al for the pre-installed procedures.

2.2.2 ACCESS TO THE UTILITIES MENU


The utilities menu can be protected from any unauthorized access by a PIN code
to access the utilities menu follow the following steps:
-- Switch the Analyzer and the following messages will be displayed:

-- By pressing the > cursor key, the < UTILITIES > will be displayed:

-- Select < UTILITIES > by pressing the Mode key.


-- Enter the PIN code 1 1 1 1 1 (factory default), with the PIN code the utilities
menu can be protected against unauthorized access.

keys you can select between the functions and confirm it with the Enter key.

Photometer calibration
The HumaClot Junior is equipped with a 1 channel / 1 wavelength photome-
ter. This photometer is calibrated by factory. With this function it is possible to
re-calibrate the photometer.

3.5 Mixer spinning


A proper function of the mixer motor and the mixer is required for a save func-
tion. Follow the following procedures to get an objective visual picture of the
spinning mixer.

-- Prepare a new cuvette with 200µl distilled water. ( It is required to use a new
cuvette with a new mixer to get an objective visual picture of the spinning
mixer).
-- Make sure that a new mixer is inside.
-- Make sure that there are no air bubbles inside.
-- Start Analyzer in service mode.
-- Select <mixer >.
-- Start motor with 200 rpm.
-- Put prepared cuvette into measuring channel.
-- Make a visual check:
1. Does the mixer spin in the centre of the cuvette.

3.6 Check thermal block temperature

the Enter key to confirm. The calibration value will be set in the Analyzer
automatically and it will be displayed automatically.

4. Wait again until the temperature has stabilized to 37, 4 in the intern line.
5. If the values deviate repeat the procedure from step 2, till the both values
are the same then you will be able to finish the calibration and save it by
pressing the ESC key.
6. After pressing ESC key following display will appear:

1. Formatting SD-Card:
For HumaClot Junior it is important to prepare the SD-Card at first, make
sure that the file system is FAT or FAT32.Other file systems as NTFS and oth-
ers will not be accepted by the Analyzer. To format a SD-Card we suggest us-
ing special software called SD Formatter which is provided by SD Association
www.sdcard.org or a digital photo camera.

Also SD-Cards directly formatted under Windows or Linux operating sys-


tems will not be accepted by the Analyzer. When the SD-cards are formatted
directly under windows or Linux operating systems will not be accepted by
the Analyzer. In case of a strong fragmentation of the SD-card, it may be
possible that the Analyzer will suddenly not accept the card anymore. In this
case the SD-card needs to be formatted by a digital photo camera.

Also defragmentation or formatting with Windows or Linux operating sys-


tems is not acceptable by the Analyzer. For a parameter update a special
file- and folder structure is required. Also it is not suggested to have more
than one pcs of *.TXT or PARIMP.* file in CD12DATA folder at the same time.
Please follow the following procedures to update the parameter:

The parameter setup of the Analyzer is stored in an internal EEPROMT and the
system is checking the parameters with checksum. In case of a checksum error
the HumaClot Junior will display a “Parameter Error” and will stop working. The

3.11 Printer connection


The HumaClot Junior can be connected to an external serial thermal printer,
Human GmbH suggest using Seiko Epson DPU-414 thermal printer. To connect
the DPU-414 printer with the HumaClot Junior a special cable is required (See
chapter 6). Before using the printer with HumaClot Junior, the serial port of the
printer must be configured.

Set Up the thermal printer DPU-414


This section describes how to change the settings of the Dip switches of the
Thermal Printer DPU-414 with the use of the buttons ONLINE and FEED.

Button: ONLINE Dip Switch = ON


Button: FEED Dip Switch = OFF

Set the status of a Dip switch to “ON” by pressing ONLINE button or to “OFF” by
pressing FEED button as indicated in the tables below. After the ONLINE button
has been pressed the GREEN lamp indicates that the button operation has been
confirmed. When the FEED button has been pressed, the button operation is
confirmed by the RED lamp.

Alternately blinking of both lamps indicates that the new settings are written
to memory.
WARNING: Never turn the printer OFF while it is writing new settings to mem-
ory.

After each Dip switch setting via button, the status of the actual Dip switch is
printed out automatically. Wait until “DIP SW setting complete!!” is printed out
and the printer returns to the ONLINE mode before turn off the power.

HumaClot Junior serial number could only be programmed at manufacturer’s


site, so if the serial number was known Human GmbH will program the serial
number during production, if not it will be programmed using the PCB spare
part serial number and because of that the programmed serial number will start
with the letter “S” (Refers to spare part), then the instruments printout will show
the PCB´s serial number instead of the original serial number of the Analyzer.
