ANALYZE

1. I think the philosophy of progressivism is dominant in Philippine basic schools because


progressivism believes that individuality, progress, and change are fundamental to one’s education.
Progressivists base their curricula on students' needs, experiences, interests, and abilities, believing
that people learn best from what they find most relevant to their lives. Teachers who are progressive
try to make school interesting and useful by creating lessons that pique students' interest. Students are
actively learning in a progressivist school. The students interact with one another and learn social
skills like cooperation and tolerance for differing viewpoints. Students also solve problems in the
classroom that are similar to those they will face in their daily lives. Progressivists believe that
education should be a continuous process of growth rather than merely a preparation for adulthood.
Our class is an obvious example of progressivism. We spend a lot of time in groups and actively learn
through discussion. We discuss how we can apply what we've learned in class to our future teaching
careers.

2. Constructivism is a key learning theory that educators employ to assist students in their learning.
Constructivism is based on the idea that people actively construct or make their own knowledge, and
that your experiences as a learner determine your reality. Learners, in general, use their prior
knowledge as a foundation and then add to it with new information. As a result, everyone's learning is
unique to them due to their individual experiences. As a teacher, you must understand constructivism
because it affects how all of your students learn. It's critical to comprehend how teachers can use
constructivism to create a unique learning environment for students in the classroom. Teachers are
more facilitators than instructors when it comes to learning. Teachers must work to understand
students' preconceived notions and understandings before attempting to incorporate knowledge into
those areas. Teachers will also need to adjust their instruction to match the level of understanding of
the students.

REFLECT

My Philosophy of Teaching

I believe that the learner could learn more if there are facts. These are evidences that what they want
to learn is true and correct because there is a proof. Using questions such as “What is this?” “What
have you learned about this?” “What are your ideas on this?” they could easily give their ideas based
on the facts. And as a teacher, we should demonstrate mastery of the subject matter and be innovative,
creative, and resourceful in selecting the best activities they could learn.

I believe that I should teach the learners to gather data of what they want to know by using and
applying the WH questions. When they were able to answer all the questions, I know deep
understanding has been applied that includes values.

I believe that I could relate to anybody by respecting each other’s opinion and idea especially learners.
Seek feedbacks from peers and colleagues and always accept constructive criticisms. Teachers should
not always think they know everything because they are teachers and a student as well since learning
is continuous and as a saying goes by, “once a teacher, forever a student.”
