The Umbrella Street

Probably the most lovely street in karakoy is the famous


Umbrella Street or Şemsiyeli Sokak -as Turkish people call
it- where everyone is taking pictures. Its original name is
Hoca Tahsin Street but people call it the Umbrella
Street because of the famous colorful umbrellas hanging
from an upper net making it look like a lovely colorful
street from one of Disney movies.
The Only Gothic Mosque in Istanbul

Arap Mosque is the only example of medieval religious


Gothic architecture remaining in Istanbul.
The church was converted into a mosque by the Ottomans
between 1475 and 1478
Galataport
Galataport is in Turkey on the European shore of the Bosporus strait near its con uence with the Golden Horn right in the heart
of the city. It includes the city's cruise ship terminal, around 250 shops and restaurants, a Peninsula hotel, the Istanbul Modern art
museum, and other cultural and entertainment facilities; the complex also hosts festivals.

taken by Ceylan in Türkiye and geographies around the world as diverse as
India, Georgia, China, Morocco and Russia

“Floating Islands”

The permanent exhibition gallery presents a chronological selection from the


museum collection that traces the development and of art in Türkiye after 1945.
Touching on different subjects and approaches, from gurative paintings to
installations and videos, the selection reveals interactions between artists and
enlightens the popular tendencies of the time.

“Always Here”

The title, “Always Here,” is a reference to feminist art historian Linda Nochlin’s
seminal essay “Why Have There Been No Great Women Artists?,” published in
Artnews in 1971.Examining the cultural basis of exclusion and the
naturalization of sexist structures, Nochlin states that art is shaped by
education and years of experimentation. Throughout history, women
everywhere were unable to receive education on equal terms with men.

“Renzo Piano: Genius Loci” focuses on the architecture of Istanbul Modern’s


new museum building and its design and construction process.
“Genius Loci” examines the new museum building, which Piano designed
taking inspiration from the light and atmosphere unique to the Bosphorus and
Istanbul.
