FOCAL LENGTH OF CONVEX LENS

Aim: To determine the focal length of a convex lens using U-V method.

Apparatus: A convex lens, lens holder, a illuminated wire gauze(source), a screen and a meter scale.

Procedure:
1.Focus a distant object on the screen, and measure the distance (F) between the screen and the lens. This gives
the approximate focal length of the lens.
2.Place the source, lens and screen as shown in the diagram.
3. Adjust the distance between the object and the lens is about(2F).
4.Adjust the position of the screen to get a sharp image on the screen.
5.Note the positions of the object, lens and screen a,b,c.
6.Repeat the experiment by changing the distance between the object and lens and take five set of observations.

Result:
Approximate focal length f=__________ cms.
Mean focal length f=__________ cms.
