1 Inform Master, Master on bridge. Master takes charge
Activate emergency alarm. Make announcement on PA system of location and

type emergency.
Notify DPA/Company and Port authorities about the medical emergency if
3
required.
Prepare the first aid squad and instruct to proceed to site of injury to render
4
medical assistance
Assess If any danger exists, rendering medical aid will be subject to identification
5
of all hazards. Take necessary precautions to mitigate the hazard.
6 Establish and check communications with all emergency station parties.
Refer to WHO publication “International Medical Guide for ships” to assist in the
7
diagnosis and to determine the nature of medical assistance to be provided.
8 If external medical assistance is required, advise Agent/Company to arrange

Maintain records in the vessel’s logbooks of all actions taken in responding to the

medical emergency. Including first aid and medicine administered.
Check the medical history of the patient. And start maintaining record of vital
11
statistics like pulse, blood pressure, breathing, temperature, etc of the patient.
12 Send initial report to shore office by “Injury Reporting Form”.

If medical evacuation is required

Send request for immediate evacuation to the Company and/or the nearest RCC

by contacting nearest MRCC by phone, contact details given in ALRS volume I
13 Prepare the patient to withstand the stress of the transfer mentally and physically.
14 Prepare the necessary equipment to effect a safe transfer of the patient.
If the vessel does not have the necessary equipment to safely transfer the patient
15
then advise the assisting craft.
Prepare the patient’s medical history and hourly record of vital statistics on board
16
for handing over to the craft evacuating him/her?
Prepare the patient’s personal belongings and documents for delivery to the craft
17
evacuating him/her?
