UNSUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE

Unsustainable agriculture refers to farming practices that deplete natural resources, harm the
environment, and compromise long-term productivity. This can include overuse of chemical
fertilizers, excessive water usage, deforestation, and poor soil management, leading to soil
degradation and loss of biodiversity.

PIS AGRO

The Partnership for Indonesia Sustainable Agriculture (PISAgro) is a collaborative initiative


aimed at promoting sustainable agricultural practices in Indonesia. Launched in 2011, PISAgro
involves various stakeholders, including government agencies, private sector companies,
NGOs, and farmers' groups.
The primary goal is to enhance food security, improve livelihoods, and address environmental
concerns by promoting sustainable and inclusive agricultural practices. PISAgro focuses on
initiatives such as promoting responsible palm oil production, improving smallholder farmer
productivity, and fostering environmentally friendly farming methods. The partnership
underscores the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration to achieve long-term
sustainability in Indonesia’s agricultural sector.

THE PROJECT INCAS (Investigación y Conservación de Anfibios en Colombia)

The aim is to make production sustainable and to improve the living and income situation of
smallholder farmers - without endangering the forest and natural ecosystems. The project also
aims to ensure access to international premium markets - for everyone.

In addition to sustainable production, the focus is also on cross-commodity work in relation to


coffee, cocoa, palm oil and rubber. In the future, these raw materials will be cultivated in
sustainable agroforestry and forestry systems to create an alternative to extensive livestock
farming. This will also massively counteract deforestation, as livestock farming is considered the
main deforestation driver in Colombia.

INITIATIVE AS A GLOBAL CITIZEN

Support sustainable agriculture:


 Buy organic or locally-produced food. This reduces the demand for industrial agriculture,
which is a major driver of habitat loss and pollution.
 Support farmers markets and community-supported agriculture (CSA) programs. This
gives you direct access to fresh, local food and helps to support small farms.
 Reduce your food waste. Food waste accounts for a significant portion of greenhouse
gas emissions and puts pressure on agricultural resources.
