Quality Plan for Component Specification

Objective: To ensure that component specifications for fabrication align with BS EN 1090
standards, enabling the preparation of accurate fabrication drawings and written procedures to
verify conformity.
 Design Information Review:
o Verify that design information complies with BS EN 1090 requirements.
o Assess the accuracy and completeness of design information before initiating
fabrication processes.
 Fabrication Drawing Preparation:
o Assign qualified personnel responsible for preparing fabrication drawings.
o Ensure fabrication drawings include detailed information per BS EN 1090-2:
design, dimensions, tolerances, materials, welding details, surface finish, and any
specific requirements.
 Conformity Check Procedures:
o Develop written procedures for checking conformity with design specifications
and BS EN 1090 standards.
o Clearly outline steps to verify dimensions, material specifications, weld details,
and other critical aspects specified in the design.
 Document Control and Traceability:
o Establish a robust document control system to manage fabrication drawings and
related documentation.
o Maintain traceability of all revisions, updates, and approvals related to fabrication
drawings and conformity checks.
 Material Compliance and Traceability:
o Ensure that materials used in fabrication comply with design specifications and
required standards (BS EN 10025, BS EN 10210, etc.).
o Maintain traceability records for materials, including certificates of conformity
and mill test reports.
 Welding and Joining Procedures:
o Align welding and joining procedures with BS EN ISO 15614-1 and BS EN ISO
9606-1 standards.
o Detail welding specifications in the fabrication drawings and written conformity
check procedures.
 Inspection and Quality Control Measures:
o Incorporate inspection and quality control measures as per BS EN 1090-2.
o Outline specific inspection points, tolerances, and acceptance criteria within the
conformity check procedures.
 Compliance with CE Marking Requirements:
o Ensure that fabrication drawings and conformity check procedures meet CE
marking requirements outlined in BS EN 1090-1.
o Prepare necessary documentation, including the Declaration of Performance
(DoP), to affirm conformity with standards.
 Training and Competency Development:
o Provide training to personnel involved in interpreting design information, creating
fabrication drawings, and conducting conformity checks.
o Regularly assess and update the skills and competencies of staff involved in these
processes.
 Continuous Improvement and Audits:
o Implement measures for continual improvement of fabrication drawing accuracy,
conformity checks, and adherence to BS EN 1090 standards.
o Conduct regular internal audits to verify compliance and identify areas for
improvement.
This Quality Plan for Component Specification within the Fabrication Production Control Plan
ensures that design information is accurately translated into fabrication drawings and written
procedures that conform to BS EN 1090 standards. It guarantees the production of components
meeting regulatory requirements and quality standards for structural steel and aluminum
fabrication.
