OSPF

 Link means router interface. State means that interface’s IP addresses subnet mask and network
type.
 Whatever every change in state, send LSA messages every 30s.
 LSDB means collecting the LSA within same area routers.
 There are two types area within same AS backbone area (area 0) and non-backbone areas ( area
1,2,3 etc…). N-BB area need to connect with BB area.
 If want to communicate area 1 and 2, can’t communicate directly and need to communicate
from area 0.
 To reduce the LSDB and routing table size, ABR or ASBR can do summarization. Also, can define
special area types to NBB area. They are stub area, totally stub area, not-so-stubby area, totally
not-so-stubby area.
 ABR function is to communicate different area. ASBR function is to communicate external
routing domain like EIGRP, RIP.
 If becoming neighbor, router exchange LSDB

OSPF terminology

1.Router ID election

 Manually configure (Best practice)

 Automatic election (f a router has an active loopback interface, OSPF will use the highest
IP address of the loopback interfaces. If not, will choose the highest IP address of any of
their active interfaces)

2. Neighbor

Router only exchange hello packet when become neighbor.

 same IP network/subnet
 same Hello and Dead Interval timers
 same area ID
 same types of area (normal or stub area)
