Introduction to Ultrasound CVC

Important:

1. The course is only available at the RLUH site.

2. The course is open to doctors and specialist nurses whose role involve the placement
of vascular access devices with the aid of ultrasound.

3. There is a dedicated programme for F2 and CT1 trainees as part of their protected
teaching/clinical skills training programme. This, however, may be a mop-up session for
those who have missed their programme.

4. Places are limited so book early.

6. It is recommended that doctors take study leave to attend the session.

Drop-in Sessions

These sessions are for:

 RGN and AHP who require assessment of their practical skills on IV cannulation after
completing the BBraun e-learning package (They should show e-learning certificate.)
 RGN who have had training from other organisations and require validation of practical
skills using simulation before formal assessment in a clinical environment (They should
show certificate of training/competence on the day of the session. Failure to provide any
documentary evidence means your drop-in session is cancelled).
 Doctors who require validation of their skills
 Medical students who require 1:1 tutorial on practical procedures
 Clinical staff who want to practice previously learnt skills
 Clinical staff referred by their supervisors

Important information:
 On arriving at a drop in session, you will be asked to produce documents detailing
previous training in the area for which you require a refresher. If you are unable to
produce these documents you will be unable to attend a drop in session and instead
advised to apply for the full course.

 When you attend a drop in session you will be allocated a set amount of time for your
session. This will be followed by a written and practical assessment. Should you fail this
assessment, you will be asked to make arrangements to attend the full course.

  We ask all clinical staff to ensure they familiarise themselves with Trust policies and
guidelines before they attend their drop in session. These guidelines can be found on the
staff intranet.

 The duration of each session will be approximately 90 minutes. Number of attendees

will vary and will be upon the discretion of the clinical skills trainer.

regarding these session, please contact the clinical skills administrator on 706 3156 or email
