Section 1 - Equipment Description

1.0 Equipment Description

1.1 Sweep-On 2000 Mask/Regulator (Part Numbers 1742XX-XX)

(Reference Figure 1)
The Sweep-On 2000 series oxygen mask with pneumatic harness contains a mask mounted
automatic diluter-demand regulator with single knob mode control (NORM-100%-EMER). The
single-knob regulator provides a visual and physical confirmation of control settings that is both fast
and easy. The mask is normally stowed with the control knob set in the 100% oxygen position. The
face seal can be easily removed for replacement or cleaning. The face seal includes an integral purge
valve lever assembly for use in conjunction with smoke goggles. This purge valve lever allows oxygen
to enter the goggles purging smoke and fumes. The purge valve lever automatically opens when the
smoke goggles are donned.

In emergencies, using only one hand, the mask can be donned and functioning in less than five
seconds. The mask has TSO-C78, TSO-C89, authorizations. The crew mask/smoke goggles
combination has a TSO-C99 approval.

1.1.1 Normal Mode

With the regulator set in the “NORM” (Normal) mode, the regulator provides an automatic
oxygen dilution. At lower cabin altitudes, ambient air is allowed to enter the regulator and mix
with the added oxygen during inhalation. As the cabin altitude increases, the percentage of
ambient air entering the regulator is reduced, until at a preset point, 100% oxygen is inhaled
by the user. The function of the automatic dilution feature is to conserve the amount of
oxygen consumed from the supply source while still maintaining protective physiological
levels. In the event of an emergency decompression, the regulator automatically provides
100% oxygen when the cabin altitude exceeds the preset point.

1.1.2 100% Mode

This mode provides 100% oxygen to the user upon inhalation regardless of cabin altitude.
B/E Aerospace recommends that the regulator always be set in the “100%” mode when the
mask is stowed on high altitude aircraft. To conserve oxygen after the emergency and where
altitudes do not require 100%, the regulator can be set to “NORM” mode.

Section 1 - Equipment Description

Doc. Part No. 2262-101 Rev. D Page 9
Sweep-On 2000
Crew Oxygen Mask System

1.1.3 Emergency Mode

The “EMER” (Emergency) mode, like the 100% setting, provides 100% oxygen regardless of
cabin altitude. In addition, oxygen is supplied at a slight positive pressure. This emergency
safety pressure prevents toxic gas contaminates from entering the mask by providing a
positive pressure seal. The mask positive pressure is vented into the face seal through the
purge valve lever mounted on the nosecone. This positive pressure purges smoke and toxic
fumes from the face seal and maintains visual protection.
• Smoke/ Toxic Fumes: This emergency safety pressure prevents toxic gas contaminates
from entering the goggles by venting through the purge valve lever mounted on the
nosecone. This positive pressure purges smoke and toxic fumes from the face seal and
maintains visual protection.
• Condensation Purge: This positive pressure mode is also used to clear the goggles at
the advent of the first signs of condensation or fogging.

1.1.4 Optional Features

Adjustable Tension Harness “Comfort Control” Mask (Models 174250-XX and 174252-XX)
The adjustable tension harness option offers the user the ability to adjust the harness
comfort. After donning the harness, the tension can be adjusted until a comfortable size is
attained. This feature provides for comfort regardless of head size, especially when the mask
is required to be worn for long periods of time. This feature provides for the optimum in
comfort fit regardless of head size. The “Comfort Control” feature resets and the harness
returns to full tension when the harness is inflated and deflated.

Pressure Detector – Crew Mask

This in-line device is intended for stowage cup and stowage bag installations only. The
pressure detector is part of the mask oxygen hose and provides a means of verification that
the crew mask has the proper supply pressure for operation. The pressure detector signals
red for oxygen supply off and green for oxygen supply on.

Automatic Pressure Breathing Mask (Models 174252-XX and 174262-XX)

These masks are provided with automatic pressure breathing when the cabin altitude
exceeds a preset point. The positive pressure increases at an altitude relative scale.
Automatic positive pressure is available regardless of operation mode setting and complies
with TSO-C89 requirements to 45,000 feet. The maximum altitude is designated on the
nameplate mounted on the mask regulator by the oxygen supply line swivel connection.

Microphone Switch
The microphone switch is internal to the construction of the mask and is activated by the
user’s inhalation. While normally in the “ON” position, the switch disconnects only during
inhalation, which stops the transmission of breathing noise during communications.

3.5 Comfort Control Operations

3.5.1 Preflight Testing

• On Masks equipped with comfort control, the wearer may reduce the harness tension in
non-emergency situations after donning.

• When comfort control is desired, the wearer slowly pushes back on the harness
attachments until the desired comfort level is reached.

• If too much adjustment is achieved, the wearer may “TAP” or “BUMP” the inflation lever
inward causing momentary bursts of deflation. This resets the harness to the full tension
position.
CAUTION: AT NO TIME SHOULD THE WEARER USE A COMFORT CONTROL SETTING
THAT ALLOWS THE MASK TO BE HANGING OFF THE FACE.
NOTE: Above 15,000 cabin altitude, comfort control feature should not be used.
