Safety Precautions
Various symbols and pictures are used in this manual and on the stickers affixed to the machine. These symbols and
pictures provide warnings and instructions to prevent danger to you or other personnel, and to prevent damage to office
property. The meanings of these symbols and pictures are explained below.

Indicates a high degree of potential danger. If the warning is ignored, death or serious

WARNING injury may result.

Indicates a medium degree of potential danger. If the caution is ignored, medium injury or
CAUTION damage to property may result.

[Examples of Pictorial Symbols]


A circle with a line through it indicates a prohibited action. The particular act prohib-
ited is indicated by a picture inside the circle. (In the example shown here, the prohibited
act is disassembly.)

A black disc indicates an instruction, or sometimes a prohibited action. The instruction


itself is indicated by pictorial symbols drawn in white on the disc. (In the example shown
here, the instruction is “Remove the plug from the outlet.”)

• These are particularly important safety points and should always be observed.

WARNING

If the machine is used after foreign matter (metal fragments, water, or liquid) has entered the
machine, this may result in fire or electric shock.
• Turn the main unit’s power switch OFF, and then remove the power plug from the outlet. Contact
the sales distributor.

If the machine is used after heat, smoke, strange smell, or other abnormality is detected, this may
result in fire or electric shock.
• Turn the main unit’s power switch OFF, and then remove the power plug from the outlet. Contact
the sales distributor.

Do not modify the machine.


• Doing so may result in fire or electric shock.

Do not remove the rear lid, cabinet, or covers from the machine.
• The inside of the machine contains high-voltage parts, which may cause electric shock.

CAUTION

Before moving the machine, remove the power plug from the outlet.
• If the cord is damaged, this may result in fire or electric shock.

• Tugging the cord may damage it (expose conductors, or cause disconnections, etc.), resulting in

Printing and Duplicating Cautions


There are restrictions on what you may print on this printer. Please be aware that there are some printed materials that
are illegal even to possess.

1. Printed Matter Banned by Law


• Paper money, currency, government bonds and national and local bonds cannot be duplicated, even if they are
stamped with the “sample” seal.
• Paper money, currency and bonds, etc. that are valid in a foreign country cannot be duplicated.
• Unused postage stamps and postcards cannot be duplicated without government consent.
• Government-issued papers pertaining to stamps, liquor and sales tax laws cannot be duplicated.

2. Printed Matter that Require Caution


• Printed-issued securities (stocks, bills and checks, etc.), passes and tickets require caution in duplicating unless a
business is duplicating them for required number for their own business needs.
• Government-issued passports, public- and private-issued driver’s licenses, permits, IDs, passes, food stamps, etc.
require caution in duplicating.

3. Copyrighted Materials
Books, music, artwork, prints, maps, diagrams, movies, photography, etc. are banned from duplicating outside the
limits of private home use and their related non-sale usage.

The set-up procedure to connect the PC interface kit BOX to the Duprinter for online printing is as follows:

USB/Parallel Connection
Windows 95, Windows 98
In this section, the procedure for the settings and execution of printing in Windows95 or Windows98 with USB
or parallel connection.

Printing procedure

IMPORTANT
● Settings in Duprinter
• In DDP system printing, specifications settable on the control panel of Duprinter are Printing
speed, Printing position, Paper size and sorter selection.
• Do not choose multiple printing or book shade erasure mode, for they may cause printing
interrupted or the center part of image masked.

Printing procedure differs according to the application software in use. Refer to the instruction manual of each
application software. Major procedure is as follows: e.g. With the attached "WordPad".

Before installing PC interface kit BOX

IMPORTANT
● Precautions before installation
– Installation –
• Make sure that Duprinter is installed before installing PC interface kit BOX.
• Pull out the power plug of the Duprinter from the point before installing PC interface kit BOX.
• Make sure to use right screws in right position.
– Requirements to use Duprinter–
q Duprinter models and ROM version
The PC Interface Kit BOX cannot be used depending the ROM version in Duprinter.
In this case, please upgrade the ROM version. ROM version can be confirmed in HELP
mode (H-00). Refer to the service manual for details.

In attaching interface kit BOX to Duprinter, please follow the precautions below.
• Install Duprinter properly before attaching interface kit.
• Pull out the power plug before attaching the interface kit.
• Use the right screws in right position.

Take off four screws and remove the rear cover.


The four screws are re-used.

Open the ejected plate box and take off the two
PCB box fixing screws.
The two fixing screws are re-used.

Open the PCB box downward.

Connect the On-line cord to the main PCB unit.


Connect the 16-pin connector of the On-line cord to CN8
(16-pin) on the main PCB unit, and the 4-pin connector of
the On-line cord to CN24 (24-pin) on the main PCB unit.
Do not connect with wrong direction of the connector. When
the IPC I/F PCB unit is attached already, take off the IPC I/F CN8 CN24
PCB unit temporarily and attach the connector.

Run the On-line cord through the opening of opening

opening of the PC Interface BOX unit, fix the
PC Interface BOX unit with two screws (MSK 4 On-line cord
× 6).

Connect the On-line cord to the PC Interface
BOX unit.
Connect the 16-pin connector of the On-line cord to CN2
(16-pin) on the PC Interface BOX unit and the 4-pin connec-
tor of the On-line cord, to CN1 (4-pin) on the PC Interface
BOX unit.

Attach the cover with eight screws.

Connect with SCSI in Windows95 system.
• In the case of the initial version (4.00.950) and A version (4.00.950a) of Windows95, set to [Scanner].
In the case of B version (4.00.950B) and C version (4.00.950c), set to [Printer].
• You can confirm the version of Windows95 in the [System properties] window ([Control panel] →
[System]).
• If IOS.VXD of Windows95 is defective and a SCSI printer is connected and turned on when Windows95 is
started, the IOS.VXD will cause serious and exceptional error. To prevent this, there are two measures.
1. Set the ID code of the Duprinter to [Scanner].
→ Set HELP-57 to ***1.
2. Download the updated IOS.VXD from the Microsoft homepage.

(2) Adjustment of longitudinal R/E of the plate making


Go into the HELP mode H-30 of the printer main unit and print the test pattern 3. Confirm the length of the A
section of the test pattern is 200 ± 0.5 mm. If it is not within this standard value, adjust it in H-22.
When the settings of H-22 is changed, the longitudinal R/E of off-line (usual) printing is also changed. Confirm it
by printing the plate with a document on the platen glass. If it is not within the standard value, adjust it in [Setting
of compensatory amount of longitudinal R/E on the reading side] of H-24.
For details, please consult the service manual.

(3) Adjustment of online plate making start position in


Adjust the start position for online plate making after the preparation of PC is completed.

Adjust using such as word processor, and so on.


q Set [Printing Position] of Duprinter to the center.
w Start the word processor software.
e Set the Margin to an arbitrary value in the Style setting.
Example of Margin setting: Top 20 mm, Bottom 20 mm, Left 20 mm, Right 20 mm
r Enter a character (e.g. "A") in the first column of the first row in the window of the word processor and print the
plate.
t Check that the difference between the Margin setting and the margin of the printed page is within ± 3 mm. If it
is not, adjust according to the following procedure. For details, refer to the service manual of the printer.

■ Confirming the operation of PC interface PCB BOX unit


Set the SCSI-ID switch on the PC interface PCB BOX unit at [8]. Put on the power of Duprinter, set the maximum
size of paper the machine can handle, and then turn the SCSI ID switch to [9]. Plate making starts about 10 seconds
later and 10 copies of test patterns are printed.

If printing is not performed properly, confirm the connection of cables and connectors.
If printing is performed properly, the attachment of PC interface kit BOX unit is completed. Turn back the SCSI-ID. 1

Before connecting SCSI host adapter, please read the user’s guide of PC and instruction of the SCSI host
adapter. Do not connect Duprinter with them yet.
Procedure is as follows:

w Make sure that the power plug is pulled out. Remove the cover of a free extend slot of PC.
e Set a SCSI host adapter. Check it is attached properly.
r Install SCSI Driver and ASPI Driver
t Make sure these Drivers are installed. Otherwise PC interface kit does not work.

(4) After installing SCSI Host adapter and Driver software, Confirm the PC works
properly
If any problems such as ‘does not start’ ‘ does not operate properly’ ‘Driver cannot be installed’ etc. is ob-
served, interruption (IRQ, INT) or I/O port may be overlapped. In this case, the interruption of SCSI Host

Connect the SCSI cable to the SCSI connector of the PC. If
the SCSI cable does not fit the shape of the SCSI connector,
get a SCSI conversion adapter on the market.

The SCSI conversion UNIT (Model number: L1-S0012) is available for a note book computer. It is also
possible to extend the SCSI cable using the SCSI conversion UNIT and the SCSI cable.

The maximum length of the cable is limited to 6m by the SCSI standard. When extending the cable, do not

You can customize the printer driver to make it easier-to use by rewriting the setting file by using Notepad or
other software. Make sure to back it up before overwriting. Do not overwrite the original printer driver disk.

■ The ? icon appears in the System Properties dialog box.


The registration of Duprinter can be confirmed in the [Other device] of [device manager] for [System Proper-

Majority of troubles occur in installation is caused by the SCSI host adapter set up.

● When ISA bus type or PCI bus type is used in Windows 95 or Windows 98

• Do not connect Duprinter when setting up SCSI host adapter.

When SCSI host adapter for PCMCIA cannot be installed properly, confirm PCMCIA Socket and SCSI
Controller in Device Manager of System Property.

system again.
1) Click the device to delete, and the dialog box open for confirmation.

Trouble shooting

■ PC does not start


The power of Duprinter is on. Some Macintosh models do not start if the power of Duprinter is on before it
is booted. Make sure to boot PC before putting on the power of Duprinter.

■ When available memory amount is not enough


To print a text of many pages or multiple colour, much amount of memory is required. Perform following
countermeasures to increase available memory amount.
• Close application software which is not in use.
• Save the text before printing it out. It may give a room to print.
• Some PC memory cannot cope with image data of multiple colour. In this case, reduce the number of
colour (tones) in [control panel].
If these countermeasures do not work, set up more amount of memory.
