OFFICE HOURS: 007 HC, T & TH @ 11:30 a.m.- 12:00 p.m.; virtually Wednesdays @
9 a.m.- 1:00 p.m.; other times by appointment. I can always be reached by e-mail.
CLASS MEETING TIME: The midterm and final exams will be taken online at 6:30
p.m.-7:30 p.m. on Mondays 10/9 and 12/11, respectively. If you have a conflict, let me
know.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
BUS 250 is the introductory course in management. It focuses on concepts and principles
of management, historical developments, and functions of management including
planning, organizing, leading and controlling. This course will provide you with a good
foundation for business management.
Discuss the theories that constitute the body of knowledge for management.
Use the vocabulary that is presented in this course and is in the Study Guide.
Analyze issues in management based on data and other solid evidence.
Demonstrate effective business written and oral communication skills.
Discuss business issues using reason and logic and without bias or prejudice.
Understand current and future issues and challenges in business.
Realize the importance of ethical business behavior and practices.
Have a good basic understanding of how to manage people and capital.

GRADING SCALE:
A - 90 - 100%
B - 80 - 90%
C - 70 - 80%
D - 60 - 70%
F - < 60%
EXAMS:
The exams will cover material in the textbook.
You will benefit by working on the material in MindTap in addition to the quizzes.
The exams will be held on Mondays 10/9 and 12/11 at 6:30-7:30 PM.
STUDYING/PREPARATION:
The Study Guide gives you a good idea of the most important material covered in the
textbook. You should be familiar with these concepts and terms.
INDIVIDUAL PAPER:
Write on any management topic or topics. Discuss your topic(s) in the context of an
organization you are personally familiar with. The paper is due on December 11, the day
before the final exam. It should be at least 1,500 words in length.
DISCUSSION BOARD:
You will be required to make two observations (two new threads) and four comments on
the observations of others, on the Discussion Board. Your two observations should be
made by 6 p.m. on Monday of the week that the chapter is assigned. Your four comments
will be made by the following Monday in response to the observations (new threads)
made by others in the class.

Any form of cheating on a test or assignment which could include but is not
limited to text messaging, copying from another student, or reviewing notes in a
non-open note exam.
Copying someone else’s work and turning it in.
Failure to give credit and cite the sources used.
Letting others use your work to complete an assignment.
