PRESIDENTS MESSAGE Hello to all Health Care Management students! It is a new year and I am delighted to serve as your new president. Lets make this a good year and build a stronger bond with our HCM Family. I hope to keep you all excited and involved throughout the year. Please stick around and join your Executive Board with the many activities we have planned for your benefit and social enjoyment. I want to start our year off right and become familiar with as many of you all as possible. Get ready to kick off this year with our rattler pride and passion to become great leaders in healthcare!

WHO WE ARE! Healthcare is one of todays most dynamic and growing fields, with a wide range of opportunities and challenges. Healthcare managers ensure that organizations have strong medical, operational, and financial footing to serve the needs of patients, their families, and the communities. We are skilled, trained professionals, who care deeply about the quality of care patients receive. Our job also includes educating the community about important health issues and ensuring that hospitals and other healthcare organizations serve as safety nets in their communities by providing emergency and ongoing care.

Frequently Asked Questions: When did the FAMU MSHA graduate its first class? Is the MSHA program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME)? What are some of the management positions held by MSHA alumni? In what health care organizations will a MSHA graduate be ready to begin a career?

The Master of Science in Health Administration (MSHA) program was established in 2000 and admitted its first class in August 2001. In 2003 the first class of 10 students graduated. The application for Candidacy (the first step in the accreditation process) was submitted to the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) and approved in July 2011. The site visit is scheduled for fall 2013. Yes our MSHA alumni are finding employment. Our graduates have been very successful competing with other MSHA graduates for employment and administrative fellowships in health care organizations across the United States. Some examples of management positions currently held by MSHA alumni are: Director of Operations, Operations Manager, and Executive Director of Support Services, Health Systems Specialist, Systems Coordinator, Compliance Officer, and Nursing Home Administrator, operations Administrator, Assistant Administrator, Patient Advocate Coordinator and Team Lead Coordinator. MSHA graduates can begin careers in the following settings: Community Health Centers, Consulting Firms, Assisted Living Facilities, Government Agencies, Hospitals, Rehabilitation Centers, Group Practices, and Mental Health Centers.
