+ COURSE DESCRIPTION
A cultural landscape is a physical area with natural features and elements
modified by human activity resulting in patterns of evidence layered in the
landscape, which give a place its particular character, reflecting human
relationships with and attachment to that landscape. This course is
designed/broken in three phases. The first phase covered the first 4 weeks,
which to deepen our understanding on cultural landscapes. The following phase
is a studio workshop to organize and compile information, which are procured
during the field study, into series of maps, inventory photos, texts and diagrams
presenting board. The last phase is design, which is our proposal of treatment
the cultural landscape.

+ LEARNING OUTCOMES
Following are the expected outcomes that shall be gained by students:
▪ Able to read and understand cultural landscape meanings and values in a
society.
▪ Able to tread and interpret Malaysia cultural landscape at the local and
regional state.
▪ Able to make connections and integrate the factors that contribute to
the formation of Malaysia’s cultural landscape.

+ PARTICIPATION AND ATTENDANCE
Attendance at all sessions includes lectures, crit sessions and discussions in the
course is necessary for participation. Students should seek to play their part in
making the class a success. Please arrive punctually for all ODL classes.

A student who fails to complete missed work within the time allowed will be
subject to the normal academic penalties for late work. An absence due to illness
will be labeled as EXCUSED when the instructor receives appropriate
documentation from a physician.

Notes: Students will be tasked to work as individual and in groups according to


requirements of each stage of the studio.
