BADMINTON DOUBLES

Badminton doubles is a sport played by two teams on a court divided by a net. The aim of the
game is to send the shuttlecock to the other side of the net into the opponent’s half of the
court and cause it to touch the ground. The shuttlecock comes into play with a service: the
server hits the shuttlecock with the aim of getting it over the net and into the opponent's half
of the court. The exchanges continue until the shuttlecock hits the floor or if one of the teams
fails to return it correctly.

ORDER OF PLAY FOR SERVING

A server shall serve from their right service area when the serving side has not yet scored a
point or has scored an even number of points in that set. Conversely, a server shall serve from
their left service area when the serving side has scored an odd number of points in that set.
The receiver who served last shall remain in the same service area from which they served
last. The reverse procedure shall apply to the receiver's partner. The player on the receiving
side who is in the service area diagonally opposite the server's service area shall be the
receiver. Players must not change service areas until they win a point when serving.

The service must be delivered from the service area that matches the score on the serving
side. In doubles, during the delivery of the service, partners may place themselves wherever
they wish within their respective half-court, provided they do not disturb the vision of the
server or receiver.

CHANGING SIDES
Players shall change half-courts:
- At the end of the first set;
- At the end of the second set, if there must be a third set;
- In the third set when one side reaches 11 points first.

If the players have not changed half-courts, the change shall be made as soon as the error is
noticed and the shuttlecock is no longer in play. The existing score must be maintained.

SCORING
To win a set, the team will need to score 21 points with a 2 point lead. If the score reaches
20–20 (equal), the side that subsequently leads by 2 points wins the set. However, if the score
reaches 29–29 (equal), the side that marks the 30th point wins the set1.
A team that is disqualified at the beginning or during a set shall be awarded 0 points and 21
points shall be awarded to the opposing team.

MATCHES:
To win a match, a team will have to win 2 sets. If the opposing teams have each won 1 set
and are tied, then a 3rd set will be played to decide the outcome1.

The time to complete the match may not exceed 40 minutes1. Beyond this period, the game
will be stopped by the referee. Fully completed sets will be counted, as well as the current set
at the current score.

In the case of a tie (in terms of the number of sets and the number of points) at the 40 th
minute, a “golden point” will be played to decide between the two teams.
