Paul
Marat
main details
Jean-Paul Marat was born on May 24, 1743, in
Boudry, a small town in the Principality of
Neuchâtel, which was part of the Holy Roman
Empire (now in Switzerland). His father, Jean
Mara, was a Sardinian-born merchant, and his
mother, Louise Cabrol, was French.
contributions
His articles, particularly in the newspaper
"L'Ami du peuple" (Friend of the People),
contributed significantly to the end of
public opinion, fueling the revolutionary
change.
Death
Marat's life was tragically cut short
when he was assassinated in his
bathtub in 1793 by Charlotte Corday.
Despite his controversial methods,
Marat became a symbol for the
revolutionary cause.
