Charging process

The IP2312 utilizes a full CC/CV charging mode.

⚫ When the battery voltage is below 3V, it enters the trickle charge mode, charging the battery with
a charging current of 100mA.

⚫ When the battery voltage is greater than 3V, it enters the constant current charging mode to
charge the battery with the set constant current charging current.

⚫ When the battery voltage is close to 4.2V and the charging current is less than 300mA, it
enters the constant voltage charging mode. After entering the constant voltage mode, it
stops charging after every 4 minutes and detects whether the battery voltage is higher than 4.15V:
if it is higher than 4.15V, it stops charging; otherwise, it continues charging and then detects it
after another 4 minutes.

⚫ When the battery is full, if the battery voltage is detected to be below 4.1V, it will turn on to
charge the battery again.

Charge protection

IP2312 has perfect protection function. Built-in soft-start function prevents faults caused by
excessive inrush current during startup, and integrated input over-voltage, under-voltage, over-
temperature and other protection functions ensure stable and reliable operation of the system.

⚫ The IP2312 integrates VIN input under-voltage protection. The VIN input loop automatically
adjusts the charging current, and when the IP2312 detects that the input voltage (voltage on

IP2312
pin 8) is lower than 4.5V, it reduces the charging current so that the input voltage (voltage on
pin 8) stabilizes at 4.5V to ensure that it does not pull the adapter to death.

⚫ The IP2312 integrates VIN input overvoltage protection, which stops charging when the IP2312
detects that the input voltage (voltage on pin 8) is higher than 5.6V.

IP2312
⚫ IP2312 integrates NTC temperature protection function with NTC thermistor, when the
temperature is detected in the range of 0~43 degrees, charging will be normal; when the
temperature is higher than 43 degrees, charging current will be reduced by half; when the
temperature is higher than 45 degrees, charging will be stopped.

⚫ IP2312 Integrated charging timeout protection: Forces charging to stop after 24 hours of charging.

⚫ IP2312 integrates an over-temperature protection function: when IP2312 detects that the chip
temperature has reached 135℃, it will stop charging; when the temperature drops to 85℃,
IP2312 will consider the temperature back to normal and restart charging;

Battery type selection (only supported by models with IP2312_VSET)

IP2312 supports 4.2V lithium battery by default, IP2312_VSET supports to select the corresponding
battery type by connecting pull-down resistors with different resistance values to D1 (pin 1), which
is multiplexed with the LED display output, as shown in the typical application schematic:
RVSET on D1 (pin 1) Battery type selection (full
battery voltage)
NC 4.2V
43K 1% 4.3V
75K 1% 4.35V
100K 1% 4.4V

Constant Current Charge Current Setting

The constant current charging current ICC can be set by the external resistor RICHG on
the ICHG pin. The current set is the battery-side constant current charging current: ICC =
135000 / RICHG .

IP2312
Charging NTC

IP2312 supports NTC protection function, which detects the high or low battery temperature through NTC pin and
shuts down the charger when the detected temperature exceeds the set temperature.

Figure 4NTC Block Diagram

⚫ When the NTC detects that the temperature is within the range of 0~43 degrees, charging is
normal. When the temperature is higher than 43 degrees, the charging current is
reduced by half; when the temperature is higher than 45 degrees, charging stops.

⚫ If the NTC function is not needed, the NTC can be grounded with a 51K resistor, and the NTC pin can
not be left floating, or it may lead to charging abnormality.

⚫ A 20uA currentis discharged from the NTC,a resistor is connected to the N T C to G N D , and the

voltage drop across the resistor from this current is used to determine the temperature range. Example:
