ASSIGNMENT # 4
Digital Visualizations

Q1 Which room type offered the highest overall satisfaction?

I used a vertical bar graph to visualize my data in order to answer the following question “Which
room type offered the highest overall satisfaction?”. I used a bar graph as it is very easy to
understand and would give instant answer to the question asked. We are trying to compare two
variables and the best and most efficient way for comparing in a visualization is a bar chart. The
visualization shows the different rates of satisfaction in different room types. We can clearly see that
an Entire home/apt offered the highest overall satisfaction of 1,426 whereas a Shared room had the
lowest overall satisfaction of 24. I used Tableau to form this visualization. The visual variables I used
are overall satisfaction on the y axis and room type on the x axis. Using a bar graph ensured that my
visualization is accurate as it is clear, clean and perfectly labeled, however if I had used another chart
type to visualize my data such as a line chart, I would have gotten the results, but it would have been
very hard to understand the visualization as we are trying to compare the overall satisfaction
between different room types.
Q2 Which Neighborhood had the most reviews?

I used a line chart to visualize my data in order to answer the following question “Which
Neighborhood had the most reviews?”. I used a line chart as I had a lot of data and using a bar graph
would have been very time consuming and confusing. Using a line chart to visualize the data gives
our question an instant answer, we can clearly see from the line chart that beltline had the most
number of views adding up to 1,839. The visualization shows the number of reviews for each
neighborhood, the visual variables include the number of revies on the y axis and the neighborhood
name on the x axis. Using a line chart ensures that small changes that are difficult to measure in
other graphs are also represented and that easy distinction can be made between different variables
as see in the diagram above. I used tableau to visualize my data.
Q3 Which borough is the most expensive?

I used a packed bubble chart to visualize my data to answer the following question “Which borough
is the most expensive?”. The visualization shows Airbnb prices in different boroughs, we can clearly
see that Centre is the most expensive with a sum of 21,346. I used a bubble chart as it displays the
data in a wide category and distinction can be made instantly. Just by looking at the visualization we
can see that the biggest circle would be the most expensive, this would have not been efficiently
possible if I used another type of chart to answer the question. I used tableau to visualize my data.
Q4. Does the neighborhood with the highest price have the most reviews?

I used a combo chart to visualize my data in order to answer the following question “Does
the neighborhood with the highest price have the most reviews?”. Since the question asked
for two measures; price and reviews, I used a combo chart to visualize the data as it makes
it convenient for us to analyze and make distinctions. By looking at the visualization we can
see that Lakeview has the highest price whereas Sunalta has the most reviews, hence we
can answer that no, the neighborhood with the highest price does not have the most views.
The visualization shows the prices of Airbnb at different neighborhoods and the number of
reviews for each Airbnb in that area. I used a combo chart as it allows us to display multiple
measures with different scales, increasing the accuracy and quality of our visualization. I
used excel to form this visualization.
Q5 Which room type had the lowest number of total reviews?

I used a pie chart to visualize my data in order to answer the following question “Which
room type had the lowest number of total reviews?”. The visualization shows the sums of
reviews given for each room type. I used a pie chart to visualize the data as using a pie chart
as it is visually simpler than other types of graphs and to permit a visual check of the
accuracy of calculations. By looking at the visualization we can easily answer the question,
we can see that a shared room has the lowest number of reviews in total compared to the
other two. Pie charts are a great way of visualizing data as you can easily compare different
variables and at the same time can also be used to show distribution of variables. The
numbers in the visualization show the sum of reviews and the three different colors shows
the different room types as can be seen in the legend. I used excel to form this visualization.
