Henry County 912ers,

The 912ers had a great meeting last Monday. We all enjoyed a lengthy debate on the Republican Candidates competing for the Republican Party nomination. It was truly amazing how much information on each candidate was shared by the group. Even more interesting, considering the depth of the debate, not one member changed his support for the candidate that he/she supported prior to the debate. I should mention that the candidate receiving 90% of the vote was Herman Cain. Its nice to know that the Henry County 912 Project is leading the Nation with respect to selecting the Republican Nominee for President of the United States. The 912ers also heard a presentation by Don Dunlop, Board Chairman of the Patrick Henry Sculpture Project. This project is well underway for the creation and installation of a statue of our County's Namesake, Patrick Henry. The statue will stand 6 feet 10 inches tall and will be placed at the Northeast Corner on McDonough Square. Patrick Henry was a true Patriot and hero during the founding of our Great nation and his Memorial is long overdue. If you feel that you would like to contribute to this project, I would ask you to do it through the 912 Project. In this way, we could perhaps reach the level of Statesman or Patriot Sponsorship. Simply make out your check to; Henry First, 501(c)3 and designate for Patrick Henry Sculpture. Mail the checks to Jim Lee, 5200 Heron Bay Blvd, Locust Grove, Ga. 30248. I will total the checks and make a single contribution on behalf of the 912 Project. Thank you for your support. Keeping the Faith, Jim

Support Henrys Educational SPLOST

My personal position is that our school system staff has always done an excellent job of planning and projecting costs. The BoE has never deviated from the published list of projects and intended uses for SPLOST revenues. Not only do we have fiscal accountability, the school system is well served by a consumption tax as opposed to property tax. The $1 billion or so in properties must be maintained. Allowing these facilities to fall into, or remain in disrepair is negligent. The one new school that is proposed is easily justified by counting trailers! You can see that I support E-SPLOST, while generally opposing the moving & shuffling of projects and funds as done by the Henry county commissioners. The Citizen said little, and efforts were made to remain neutral. It is too easy for Joe Voter to confuse a well-run, fiscally sound program with every other Evil Tax. Well, the vote is near. It is time to take a stand. Larry Stanley

Vote Willie

Walls for Hampton City Council

Advanced voting started on Monday October 17th at the Henry County Elections Office on Phillips Drive in McDonough. To those folks who live in Hampton, go out and vote for Mr. Willie Walls for Hampton City Council. Willie brings some great attributes to the table for the leadership of Hampton. 1. Willie can talk with the citizens in an understanding manner so that the people can be more involved with the city government. 3. Willie will always have his door open to those who need him from the community.

4. Willie will not only have a good working relationship with the city leaders, but he will be able to work with county leaders as well to make Hampton all it can be. 5. Monday, October 17, started Advanced Voting at the Henry County Board of Elections, 345 Phillips Drive, McDonough, GA 30253. This will be the most serious choice that you will have to make over the course of the next 4 years! Before you mark your computer ballot or complete your on-line military ballot or even submit your absentee ballot .... I ONLY ASK THAT YOU STOP FOR A MINUTE AND THINK ABOUT THE CHOICE YOU ARE ABOUT TO MAKE. WHOMEVER YOU ELECT WILL CLEARLY IMPACT YOUR FUTURE AS WELL AS THE FUTURE OF STOCKBRIDGE. 1) Do you want another 4-years of City Council "in-fighting" where nothing gets done for the betterment of our citizens? 2) Do you want to continue to fund the payment of exorbitant lawyer fees to settle on-going city internal / external disputes? 3) Do you want our city's business climate to continue to falter as it has done under the current regime of city council members? 4) Do you want our city to continue to lose jobs and increase our current unemployment rate from its effective 20.8% to something substantially higher?? 5) Do you want to re-elect city council members who focus on the development of Henry County at the expense of the development of the City of Stockbridge? 6) Do you want city council members who are more concerned about their own "title and self being" rather than to do the work mandated by the citizens who elected them? 7) Do you want people who have DENIED your given right to have Districting to continue to use it as a "bargaining tool?"

YOU CAN CHOSE TO KEEP OUR CITY UNDER THE RULE OF THOSE WHO HAVE FOSTERED ITS DECLINE OR YOU CAN MAKE A CHOICE THAT WILL BRING LIGHT, LIFE, VISION AND VIBRANCY BACK TO OUR GREAT COMMUNITY!

I ASK THAT YOU VOTE FOR RICHARD STEINBERG FOR STOCKBRIDGE CITY COUNCIL.
I PERSONALLY THANK YOU! Respectfully,

RICHARD

Elect Swaine Thompson for

McDonough City Council - District III
October 7, 2011 Dear Henry Citizen, It is with pleasure that I announce to you my intention to run for the office of City Council for the City of McDonough in the upcoming Nov 8, 2011 election. I further ask for your support during my campaign, I believe in supporting the small business lower taxes - a smaller government - more city fiscal responsibility and a strong public safety program. These ideologies are the foundation of American values and I wish to protect those. The time is now for change of leadership for our district. McDonough is growing and we need someone who presents a more active role within the entire District. Under this city administration, our millage rate has practically doubled during tough economic times. This is bad business and I want it stopped now. I will work for you. If you elect me into office, we will stay in constant communication using social media and other means. I believe that elected officials sometimes forget that they work for the community or maybe parts of it. I will never take your vote for granted. City Council service is a privilege! I plan to put in place and maintain programs that support the health, safety and welfare of our growing community by ensuring McDonough continues to be the Choice community for the future. Again, I ask for your support on November 8, 2011. I would like the opportunity to speak with you individually to hear what you think can be improved to make our community safer, stronger and more prosperous. Also, this year there is a referendum on the ballot where McDonough citizens will decide if they want Beer and Wine sold on Sundays so it is crucial for you to go to the polls to cast your vote. Please feel free to contact me at swaine@swaineforcitycouncil.org or (678) 876-0244. If anything reach out to me and say Hello and let me know you will support me! If you request a ride to the polls on Nov 8, 2011, please contact my office. We will provide a ride for you.

Apologies to our readers..

Issue #298 featured a false story about military funeral protocol. Readers caught the urban legend and promptly advised us of the error. Please accept our apologies.

I read the story of the military funeral and found it hard to believe that even Obama would pick a fight on a subject he could not possibly win. I check and it seems its another internet, urban legend.

http://urbanlegends.about.com/od/military/a/Military-Funeral-Protocol.htm

John Douglas =============== Concerning "New Ritual at Military Funerals" - a comment: According to Army Field Manual (The Soldier's Guide: The Complete Guide to U.S. Army Traditions, Training, Duties, and Responsibilities, 2007), the recommended wording is this: This flag is presented on behalf of a grateful nation and the United States Army as a token of appreciation for your loved ones honorable and faithful service. Only a commissioned officer can represent the President, as they technically receive their commission from the President, and it would be appropriate for an officer to add "on behalf of the President and" to the phrase. BUT in 2007--under President George Bush, mind you--the lack of availability of officers to perform this service forced the military to allow NCO's to act in lieu of an officer at such a service; HOWEVER, an NCO can only represent the Secretary of Defense, not the President, as an NCO receives his authority from the Secretary of Defense, NOT the President. Therefore....this is a non-issue. Joseph Valles Stockbridge, GA =============== I generally enjoy reading the local news and information about upcoming events. Today however I read your submitted piece about the change in protocol for military funerals. This story which has gone viral, thanks in no small part to publications such as yours repeating it, bears some additional commentary. Although the writer stands by the recounting of events, there is no supporting evidence to this story. A simple "Google" gives ample discussion to this topic. You do not do service to our military families or your readership by printing such material without basic "fact checking" and accordingly, I am requesting that your remove me from your subscription list. Regards, Jenny

I am very concerned with the T-SPLOST. What bothers me the most are the Regional Commissions that are established. (I also fear this is a step toward Agenda 21 concepts) In my limited understanding it would seem that by doing a SPLOST on a regional basis that Georgia's Constitutional concept of HOME RULE is being violated. I am wondering if you are anyone you know can shed more light on this. If my understanding of Home Rule is right then this regional concept totally violates our State Constitution. Any thoughts or ideas as to how this can be verified? Mike Scupin Local Coordinator Lanier Tea Party Patriots Gainesville, GA 30506 770-983-1075

These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. ~ Thomas Paine, The American Crises, No.1, 1776

YOUR VOICE

TIM BRADY:
Last Sunday, when we got to church, at New Canaan on Hi-Hope Road in Lawrenceville (only a 1/4 mile from Gwinnett Co Police headquarters), we discovered our A/C units had been stolen! This Sunday, I heard that we were only "epluribus unum".. ,one among many, that week that had also been had their units stolen! OH, WHAT A TEST QUESTION! Do you pray for JUSTICE or MERCY? Churchgoers! Beware!

Heard in town. Thinking out loud, how much longer can the Henry Herald shield and
protect BJ Mathis and the BoC from Billy Abbate?

The plot thickened when the Grand Jury in Henry County and the Virginia Court entered the mix. Time will tell. BJ supporters are falling off her just like the leaves are falling from the trees. I feel very comfortable now that Ms. Mathis is a one-termer.

Heard in town. Kathy Gilbert ran her first campaign as opposing the Rudy/Ted
Administration and took advantage of the eminent domain issues at the time. Where did friendsofrichardsteinberg@gmail.com Campaign Committee Visit our website at www.friendsofrichard.com Look For Us On Facebook at Friends of Richard Steinberg that 'candidate' go? Shirley Dabney, I don't know much about. She adds nothing but a vote supporting Gilbert. Both of these incumbents have raised enough division and personality spats to think we are still watching Jerry Springer. These incumbents pushed and shoved to get a City Charter change that was aimed directly at the mayor. They pushed to AVOID a referendum - denying citizens the right to decide the issue. THEY ARE SUCKING THE LIFE OUT OF OUR CITY! One issue I can agree on: ambush tactics - Alarcon was formerly a supporter of the mayor. Then he decided he wants to run for mayor. He has apparently started his campaign for

2013. Another one-time supporter turned because he was not GIVEN a city contract; the mayor said he would have to bid like everyone else. THEY ARE SUCKING THE LIFE OUT OF OUR CITY! No person, council member or mayor is perfect or above human frailty. Leaving personality and ego aside, decide whether business as usual is going to remedy the dysfunction in Stockbridge.... Vote Out The Incumbents.

I really hate political jokes. Especially the ones who get elected! Robin Buschman has joined Gilbert & Dabney to run as a ticket. One for All. And All for themselves! Have you seen the flyer that is being left at houses in The Villages? This flyer shows the 3 women, Robin Buschman, Shirley Dabney and Kathy Gilbert on the front..........it is inviting everyone to a Reception at Eagles Landing Country Club. Shirley Dabney has not attended any open events nor said a single word about her campaign platform. Simply stated, she has none! She no-showed at the Monarch Village event AND no-showed at the Henry County NAACP forum! Robin Buschman has only made two very brief appearances - specifically at the Monarch Village event and a private Windsong event - but was a "no show" at the Henry County NAACP forum. She has stated that "her experience as a restaurant owner, and her ability to read a balance sheet, makes her qualified for this office! (She is also Lee Stuart's ex-girlfriend.) She additionally stated at the Monarch Village event that she and her brother "feed the police for free" which, if true is ILLEGAL .... it violates the Henry Police Department code of ethics barring acceptance of any gratuity! Kathy Gilbert was at the Monarch Event and then "no-showed" at the Henry NAACP event! She was NOT INVITED to the Windsong event (her own neighborhood)! I was told that "Kathy didn't want to answer the questions" at the NAACP forum! She is traveling around telling people that "everyone is wrong about her record!" Unfortunately it is on video tape and her voting record is recorded for all to see! So much for everyone else being wrong! Kinda' reminds me of Theresa on the Housewives of New Jersey! LOL! So, to me, this event must be promoted by Judy Neal or George Hawxhurst or the Eagle's Landing Association or someone / something like that! Just a guess on my part! I heard that it was being touted as a wine (or is it "whine") and appetizer function! Let's remember that 2 years ago, The Villages represented a strong voting block of individuals and this event, on their part, appears to be nothing more than an attempt to "buy votes" from this key group of voters.

Georgia Restricts Candidates

From Randy Kitchens
Please forward this to your contacts. Georgia has the most restrictive Ballots in America. Last election over 40% of our State Representatives ran unopposed, including more than one of our local representatives. One thing every voter should know, Rusty Kidd (Independent), Alan Powell (Democrat) & Mark Hatfield (Republican) Introduced House bill 1257 in March of 2010. It died in committee. http://www1.legis.ga.gov/legis/2009_10/sum/hb1257.htm. Many Georgians may not realize just how many independent and 3rd party candidates tried and failed to get the required Petitions in 2010. To my knowledge there were more than 10; many missed qualifying by less than 200 signatures. Again the GA Legislature has been presented with another bill to remove the Petition requirements for Independent and 3rd party candidates, HB 494, again sponsored by Representatives Kidd and Powell. So far it has been read in the Assembly in March, Seven Months ago, and no further action. http://www1.legis.ga.gov/legis/2011_12/sum/hb494.htm We need to put pressure upon the GA Legislature to be HONEST public servants and remove the barriers that protect them from competition. My Fellow Georgians contact your local representative and demand they get this bill passed through the Legislature and signed into law.

If You Support Herman Cain - from Nic Cols

We wanted you to be aware of a new direction being potentially taken by the Muscogee County Conservative Party. Several of the party's leadership have decided to fully endorse and commit to supporting the Herman Cain campaign in Muscogee County. Josh McKoon, who is a co-chair of the Georgia Statewide Campaign for Herman Cain, met with us on Sunday afternoon to discuss the establishment of a local campaign staff for HC in our county. Since then, we have been planning a kickoff event (Oct 23) and reaching out to TeamCain members located in Muscogee and surrounding counties in GA and AL, and to you, our Tea Party friends. I say "potential" above because we will ask the party membership for a vote of agreement in this direction. We do not plan to drop our other activities towards seeking out and supporting conservative candidates for office in the local area. In addition, Josh is working to get HC to come visit Columbus in November, around which visit we will plan a gala fund-raising event, a public rally, and possibly a school event, if there is enough time. This could be huge for the HC campaign and for our grassroots organizations. We invite your participation in this. Our kickoff planning meeting will be on Sunday, Oct 23 at 5pm at Logan's steakhouse on Manchester Expwy. Please pass the word on to your groups, if you will, of the formation of a HC Campaign team here in mid-Western GA and eastern AL! (note: please watch for an email later this week about the 9-9-9 plan.)

The Henry County Tax Commissioners Office Honored

The agency, headed by Tax Commissioner David Curry, was recently named a 2011 Georgia Focus Recognition recipient by the Georgia Oglethorpe Award Process, Inc. The department will be formally recognized at the Georgia Oglethorpe Annual Conference and Awards Banquet, scheduled for Thursday, in Atlanta. The Georgia Oglethorpe Award Process, Inc., is a non-profit organization, which provides low-cost, high-value education, assessment and recognition to Georgias business, industry, government, education, healthcare and non-profit agencies, said county spokesperson, Julie Hoover-Ernst.

It promotes strategic and tactical organizational performance improvement and excellence through use of the Criteria for Performance Excellence, she said. The criteria on which the applicants are selected include leadership, strategic planning, customer focus, measurement, analysis and knowledge measurement, workforce focus, process management and results. Hoover-Ernst said the Henry County Tax Commissioners Office is the first office of its kind to receive this recognition. The two other 2011 Georgia Focus Recognition Applicants to be honored are Fayette County Government and Bethesda Academy in Savannah, she said.
