CHANNEL NOISE/FAILURE - REPAIR PROCEDURE | UI24R

WARNING: Problems and failures on the channel may occur by connecting or disconnecting
the cable with Phantom Power (+48V) active and mixer powered on.
ALWAYS CONNECT AND DISCONNECT THE CABLES WITH THE MIXER POWERED OFF!
NOTE: Some ICs manage 2 channels together, for this reason channels usually are failing
together (vertically).

CHANNEL NOISE/FAILURE - REPAIR PROCEDURE | UI24R

When audio channels problems occur, you should perform the following steps:
1) Visual inspection and assess whether there are no visibly burned components that
characterize improper use:

CHANNEL NOISE/FAILURE - REPAIR PROCEDURE | UI24R

2) Perform the image recovery procedure available in the GAP system:

DEFECT:
HDMI working
WIFI does not connect
Does not connect via
Ethernet
USB does not work
SOLUTION:
Reinstall firmware via USB PC

3) Perform the measurement procedure on the DSP board available in the

GAP system:

Check all power points

indicated on the DSP card that
may cause the following
defects:
CHANNEL NOISE
NO ON-CHANNEL AUDIO
THE CARD DOES NOT
INITIALIZE
WIFI DOES NOT CONNECT
If the power supplies work
proceed to repair, otherwise the
DSP card is broken.

4) Run a short on the faulty channel resistor (as below) and check if there is still
noise:

* If the noise stops after the short, check STEP 5 and STEP 8.
* If the noise continues after the short, check STEP 6 and STEP 7 and STEP 8.

5) Remove the transistors and the DG412 IC from the
differenti al torque pitch of the channel to be analyzed and
clean the board with isopropyl alcohol. Before re-soldering the
transistors, verify with the multimet er that they are working
fine.
NOTE: It is necessary to REMOVE the components and clean the
board (only hot air does not solve the problem)

6) Remove the HEF4051 (8-channel analog multiplexer/demultiplexer) and SN74HC594

(8-Bit Shift Registers With Output Registers) ICs from the gain switching phase and
clean the board with isopropyl alcohol, check if they are defective.
NOTE: It is necessary to REMOVE the components and clean the board (only hot air does
not solve the problem)

7) Reverse the AD converter IC of the channel with another one that is good and
check if the problem is in this component.

NOTE: The board is powered at +16V and -16V, the power supply line is indicated
horizontally, the 3 pcs of 4580 preamps vertically manage 2 channels in line
independently (figure on the side).

NOTE: Each group of 3x 4580 has its own dedicated power supply line (see capacitor
groups and their respective resistor filters).

POWER LINE 6
CHANNEL NOISE/FAILURE - REPAIR PROCEDURE | UI24R
Check continuity between each pin 8 and 4 of all 3 preamps 4580 and check that the
voltage is correct on each pin (pin 4 and 8), -16V and +16V.
If a voltage is missing/different there can be a broken track, a burned resistor(s) or a
cold solder on the capacitors that carry the power supply.
Keep the multimeter in “diode test” mode, put the RED tip on pin 4 and measure the
values on the other pins.
A value of 1 indicates that the preamp is broken. The measured values should be
approximately all the same for a good IC.

Check the resistors in pairs for each channel that act as fuses, the resistors value is
6 Ohm. If the resistor is open, faulty or burned, or does not measure 6 Ohm is must
be replaced, also check adjacent resistors if they are ok.

8
CHANNEL NOISE/FAILURE - REPAIR PROCEDURE | UI24R
Visually check the analog switcher IC (channel to be analyzed) if it shows burns. The
IC is used to selectively activate preamps 4580 (1, two or 3 working together). If the
IC is burned it must be replaced, if the 6 Ohm fuse has broken, most likely the IC
could be damaged.

Check with the tester the continuity between capacitor and power of the preamps
4580.

Un-solder the connector for the failed channel, clean the board with isopropyl
alcohol, and solder it to eliminate any cold welding problem.
