Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in English 8

Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding of: East Asian literature as an art
form inspired and influenced by nature; relationship of visual, sensory, and verbal signals in both
literary and expository texts; strategies in listening to long descriptive and narrative texts; value
of literal and figurative language; and appropriate grammatical signals or expressions suitable to
patterns of idea development.
Performance Standard: The learner transfers learning by composing and delivering a brief and
creative entertainment speech featuring a variety of effective paragraphs, appropriate
grammatical signals or expressions in topic development, and appropriate prosodic features,
stance, and behavior.
Learning Competencies: EN8LT-IId-2.2.2: Explain the literary devices used;
EN8RC-IId-2.22: Evaluate the personal significance of a literary text
I. Learning Outcomes
a. identify literary devices used in a song;
b. explain literary devices used in literary writings;
c. construct meaningful sentences using different literary devices.

II. Learning Experiences
A. Preparation
1. The students are divided into four (4) groups.
2. Each student pick a strip of a colored paper from the teacher.
3. The strip of a paper contains what group they are belong.
4. Each group will be given a printed handouts to answer the activity
5. On the printed handouts the lyrics of the songs are indicated and each
group has different assign songs to identify what kind of literary devices
is used.
6. Each group are given 3 minutes to finish the activity. Then answer the
question:
 What kind of literary devices is used in the song?
7. After the students are done with the activity, the teacher will proceed to
ask this question:
 From the songs associated with our activity, what do you think is
our lesson for today?
B. Presentation
1. The teacher is going to present the topic “Literary Devices”
2. Instructional material is presented to highlight the topic.
3. After the discussion, the students with their same group will construct meaningful
sentences using at least five (5) literary devices (according to their choice)
4. Each group will be given 5 minutes to finish the task and present it to the class.

C. Performance
1. Each student is going to choose a literary device (according to their choice) and
create a 2 stanza poem. Write it on a whole sheet of paper.
