Data Communication

CSE-225; Marks: 15
Class Test # 02; Time: 30 Min
Answer ALL Questions:
1. You are designing a digital communication system for a Telephone channel link with a
bandwidth of 3000 Hz.
08
i) If you have an available signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 20 dB, determine the capacity of
the channel.
ii) If the above channel is to be used to transmit 5kbps of data. determine the minimum
SNR required on the channel.
iii) If the signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) is 0 dB, the bandwidth is reduced by 1000 Hz, and
each signal level represents 3 bits, calculate the maximum bit rate that can be
achieved in this channel.
2. What is Line coding? Draw the signal using the last three digits of your student ID (e.g.:
If your student ID is 201-15-3445, the last 3 digits are 445).
