 Can you describe? ____________________________________________________
 How can you as a teacher help to make such environment conducive for learning?
_________________________________________________________________
Analyze

The examples above describe two contrasting situations. The first shows that the learners
are in the same room or space while in the second, the learners maybe in different learning
spaces like homes, study hubs or in extreme cases parks or under the trees.
As a teacher, in which of the two situations would you prefer to manage for learning?
Choose between Learning Environment 1 or Environment 2.
Explain your choice: Why?

I choose learning environment 1, where students can ask questions, participate in group
discussions, and engage in school activities. They miss face-to-face education due to the
pandemic, but believe it is enjoyable, meaningful, and allows children to understand the
teaching-learning process. They believe online education cannot replace face-to-face education
for children's full potential.

Reflect

Based on my noticing and analysis, I realized that

a) Face-to-face learning is more effective than online learning as it allows children to
engage in hands-on activities and interact with their peers.
b) As a teacher, it is my duty to create a conducive learning environment that fosters a
positive learning experience for students.
c) As a teacher, I must be prepared for potential pandemic scenarios, including delivering
modules at students' homes and creating a conducive learning environment.

Write Action Research Prompts

OBSERVE
What probable problem may result from the two situations of the learning environment?

Students are experiencing difficulties with internet connectivity in rural areas.

What solutions can I think of to solve the problem?

As a teacher, it's crucial to interact with students, create plans A and B, communicate
with parents, be creative, understand one's profession, and be adaptable to ensure the
future of students is in their hands. This includes visiting students at home, implementing
effective learning strategies, and being mindful of their needs.
PLAN

How should I do it? I must prioritize children's needs and seek advice from the principal,
parents, local leaders, and instructional materials. I should adjust teaching abilities based on their
circumstances and adapt to a two-learning environment. This includes seeking advice from the
principal, meeting parents, seeking intervention, and creating instructional materials.

Participate and Assist

Given the concepts and the infographic, how can you participate and assist in a face-to-
face learning environment?

As a future educator, I aim to create a safe, fair, comfortable, and conducive classroom
environment for face-to-face learning. I will encourage student participation, encourage them to
share their ideas and opinions, and develop social, creative, and analytical thinking skills.
Utilizing various teaching strategies and technology, I believe, will enhance the learning
experience, and encourage reflection and exploration.

Notice

Having been exposed to the traditional classrooms in your basic education, it seems that
everything is familiar. However, as teaching-learning theories evolve over time there are changes
that are taking place.
What changes have you noticed in the face-to-face classroom spaces?

Classroom Environment Before Classroom Environment Now

Teachers utilized traditional materials such as We are now using a Power Point presentation.

Analyze

What do you think brought the changes in the face-to-face learning environment now?
The integration of technology in classrooms is transforming the face-to-face learning
environment, affecting seating arrangements, space allocation, and overall learning outcomes.

From the changes that you identified, choose one that you can do. How will you do it?

My plan is to enhance the classroom layout, utilize available technologies for creativity,
remove distractions, and promote student development.

Reflect

Do you think making the learning environment conducive for a face-to-face classroom
will enable learners to achieve better learning outcomes? YES, Explain your answer.

Making the learning environment suitable to face-to-face instruction would allow

students to attain greater learning results. It assists students in improving their concentration,
reducing anxiety, and supporting their emotional well-being; it also allows them to have more
self-confidence and self-esteem. Learners are more likely to acquire more motivation when
educators build a positive learning culture, which leads to excellent learning results.

chaos and noise.

Will it improve my teaching? YES how?

As a Future teacher I can manage students effectively by regulating classroom behavior

and educating them effectively.

PORTFOLIO ENTRY
Title: The Face-to-Face Learning Environment

Describe the physical environment:

The physical environment of a classroom should be designed to maximize learning

opportunities and engagement for all students, using the Universal Design for Learning
concept. This includes providing accessible materials, books, and space for wheelchair-using
students.

Describe the psychological environment:

The psychological environment in the classroom fosters the exchange of ideas, opinions, and
attitudes, encouraging students to learn and ask questions, promoting a one-sided and
challenging educational journey.

Describe the social environment:

A well-designed social environment in a classroom supports positive interactions between

children, teachers, and family members, enabling adults to help children achieve their social
goals. Teachers must plan activities accordingly.

Notice
Unlike the traditional face-to-face environment, online or virtual environment is a bit
difficult to manage. It is because Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) is imaginary and not in
the physical sense. It has no corners or walls and it can be set up with the support of technology.

As a teacher, what have you discovered to be easy to implement in your virtual class?
As an observer in an online class, I learned that managing online classes is challenging, but we
must find a solution. Despite the fact that everything would be done online, the first step would
be to create rules and regulations. My students' participation will be recorded, and I will use
synchronization and offbeat to provide them sufficient time to complete their activities.

How did the students show their active participation in the lesson?
Students consistently arrive on time, raise their hands, pay attention, ask probing questions, and
actively participate in online virtual classes, demonstrating active participation.

Analyze
Which of the following is/are your analysis/analyses of on-line learning environment?
Check one or more.
/ It was difficult to observe the physical behavior of the students.
/ It takes time for students to learn how to use the platform.
/ Students who are alone in their home space find difficulty to make responses.
/ Internet connectivity is a great factor to support a conducive environment.

Reflect

As a future teacher I feel that the on-line learning environment can be safe if
The instructor effectively defines online security for students, equipping them with
knowledge and skills for secure online habits and ethical internet usage, ensuring their
safety even when not working on schoolwork.

I think that teaching is virtual learning environment is

For me, it will be interesting and exciting because I will be able to present my lessons
using a variety of software apps and online tools. On the other hand, I believe virtual
teaching is difficult because I only have a basic understanding of digital learning systems.
As a result, to learn how to utilize those apps, I'll need to attend webinars or seminars.

Write Action Research Prompts

OBSERVE Identify the problems brought about by the on-line learning environment.

 Social Isolation.
 Limited access to technology.
 Individuals who are computer illiterate are unable to access the system.

REFLECT How would you solve this problem?

Implementing a strong innovation integration strategy in the classroom can solve the problem of
access restrictions due to hardware or network issues. Adequate resources and fast internet
connection are crucial for successful implementation. During crisis, the government should
support students and ensure no one is denied education.

PLAN What initial plan do you intend to do to solve the problem?

The plan that I intend to do to solve that problem is to stay in touch with teachers, record course
sessions, encourage students to do their best, and avoid distractions. To avoid missing lectures,
plan breaks and stick to a learning schedule. A home internet connection is essential. Consider
seeking assistance from your organization and specialized software and devices for effective
learning. Keep your instructor in mind during problem-solving.

Teaching Presence?
Teachers should monitor students' activities and use social media to gather information
about their needs and preferences. Using a spy on students' group chats can help tailor
lessons to their interests and preferences, ensuring a more effective and enjoyable
learning experience.

Social Presence?
The teacher utilized messenger to address students' difficulties promptly, avoiding
personal messages for emergencies or potential bullying. They also created a group chat
for students to leave activities and study for future meetings.

REFLECT
What do I hope to address the problem/challenge/area of improvement in the web-
conferencing app use? What change do you want to achieve?

A recorded video of a topic can be used for students to watch and understand, even
without high internet connection, provided the teacher uploads the video in advance of
the meeting.
PLAN
If you will conduct an action research, what will be the title (base this on your answers in
nos. 1-3).
ACT
What strategies/solution/means can you employ to improve the situation/solve the
problem?

Work on my Artifacts
Attach pieces of evidence of what you accomplished in this episode.
Analyze
 Did the formative assessment tasks help students master what they were expected to
learn?

Assessments often aid students in enhancing their comprehension of their academic

strengths and weaknesses.

 Was students’ response to formative assessment exercise favorable or unfavorable? Why?

Formative assessment enhances academic achievement by providing regular feedback to

students and teachers, helping them bridge the gap between their current knowledge and
their learning goals.

 Did the conduct of formative assessment and self-assessment affect students’ attainment
of learning outcome? How?

Formative and self-assessment positively impacts students' academic performance, self-

awareness, and overall learning outcomes by increasing academic improvement, explicit
criteria for self-evaluation, and making performance improvement practices intrinsic to
ongoing learning.

 What was the affect of students assessing their own progress on their motivation to learn?

This leads to students being more self-evaluative and overestimating their capacity to
identify their strengths and weaknesses in their learning habits.

Reflect
How would attainment of learning outcome be affected if there were no formative assessment
nor self-assessments?

Assessment is crucial in determining if education goals are being met, impacting

decisions on grades, placement, advancement, instructional needs, curriculum, and
funding. It prompts questions about teaching what is being taught and promoting better
learning. Today's students need critical thinking, analysis, and inference skills, changing
the relationship between assessment and instruction. Teachers should actively participate
in assessment decisions.
OBSERVE

1. One thing that went well in the development / use / administration of formative
assessment tasks (assessment for learning) is

In a well-established classroom, students actively participate in their learning, judge the

success of their work, and take responsibility for their own progress.

2. One thing that did not go very well in the development use / administration of formative
assessment tasks (assessment for learning) is

Formative assessment, often viewed as time-consuming, can actually be a valuable tool

for learning, as it doesn't require extensive time to complete.

3. One good thing observed in students’ self-assessment (assessment as learning is

This strategy enhances performance, motivation, self-regulation, feedback literacy,

evaluative judgment development, and lifelong learning by promoting reflection and self-
reflection.

4. One thing in student’ self-assessment (assessment as learning) that needs improvement

based on what were observed is

Self-assessment involves asking specific, relevant questions, as not every question is

relevant and cannot be asked and answered in the world.

REFLECT
The formative assessment activities went well because

Formative assessment involves setting learning goals and measuring progress towards
them, which can boost motivation.

The formative assessment activities process did not go well because

Formative assessment is crucial for differentiation and ensuring impact and effectiveness
in modern teaching. Teachers are equipped to handle the challenge of assessing all
learning levels.
For the students, self-assessment worked because

This method promotes students to stay within their zone of proximal development,
allowing them to learn without being too much pressure or frustration.

5. For the students, self-assessment did not work because

Self-assessment can be subjective, time-consuming, and unfamiliar with assessment

criteria, potentially leading to over-evaluation and under-reporting of students'
performance.

ACT
To ensure that formative and self-assessment process serve their purpose, to help
students learn, I will learn from other’s best practices by researching on

Formative assessments aid teachers in monitoring student progress, identifying areas of

difficulty, and adjusting teaching methods to ensure students stay on track.

PLAN
To help improve formative and self—assessment practices, I plan to conduct

2. Did teacher make use of both traditional and authentic assessment tasks?

Teachers find traditional assessments easier to conduct and score, benefiting them as they
provide quick results.
3. Are the traditional and authentic assessment tasks (written tests) formulated in
accordance with principles of test construction?
Traditional assessment involves learners choosing answers, while genuine assessment
involves real-life tasks based on the given object, offering an alternative to manufactured
evaluations.

4. Were the assessment tasks for formative purposes also used for summative purposes?
Why or why not?

Formative assessments are a collaborative partnership between teachers and students,

guiding and advising learning, unlike summative evaluations which measure knowledge
or recall.

5. Where were assessment results students better – in the results of traditional or authentic
assessment?

Authentic evaluations offer numerous advantages over traditional testing, particularly in

assessing higher-order thinking skills required for learning goals.

6. Which assessment activity/activities did the students like more? Like least? Why?

Students enjoy participating in assessment activities that involve information collection

techniques, strategic questioning, feedback, and peer and self-evaluation.

Reflect

How can I make the assessment process more meaningful to and more acceptable to
students?
Reflect on class concepts, assess key skills, consider learning objectives, and student outcomes.
Provide performance standards, evaluation options, and involve students in classroom planning
discussions. Teach peer and self-evaluation, using scoring criteria.

Notice
1. Take note of:
 The individual students’ scores in relation to established criterion of
success or cut-off score;
 Parents’/guardians’ participation and comments during Card-Giving
Day/Parents’-Teachers’ Conference

 Your own feelings and thoughts as you assisted your CT:

- Score tests and compute grades

- Prepare for PTC
- Respond to queries and other concerns raised in the PTC

Analyze
1. What are the teaching implications of the students’ test scores and grades?

Teachers can effectively support student learning by intentionally planning, supervising,

and responding to student responses during classroom discussions, thereby reinforcing
comprehension and reducing test scores and grades.

2. In what subjects did students perform best? Poorest?

I believe that identifies English and mathematics as the most challenging subjects for
students, as they often struggle with language interpretation and problem-solving, making
them challenging to engage in.

3. How was the PTC attendance of parents and guardians? What does this imply?

Attending a parent-teacher conference fosters effective communication between parents

and teachers, allowing for effective handling of student behavior and academic reports.

4. What parents/guardians’/comments were most common during Card-Giving Day?

Parents expressed satisfaction with their child's study performance and gratitude towards
the instructor, while also discussing strategies to improve their child's grade and achieve
the expected grade.

Reflect

What personal message do I get from these students’ scores, grades and
parents’/guardians’ PTC attendance and comments?

The instructor's discussion revealed that some parents and students appreciate the teacher's
grade-giving efforts, while others question the lack of progress. The teacher assists parents in
enhancing their students' abilities.

Write Action Research Prompts

OBSERVE
1. One good thing that I observe in scoring/grading/Parents-Teachers Conference was

The teacher should inform students about grading methods, stating achievement-based
grades, and avoid prejudice. Students should review evidence and give better grades if
unsure.

2. One good thing that did not go very well in scoring/grading/Parents-Teachers Conference
was

Parents who failed to attend school are puzzled as to why their children received the
grades they did.

REFLECT
The scoring/grading/Parents-Teachers Conference went well because
The teacher and parents had a positive relationship due to the teacher's willingness to
answer questions in a clear and understandable manner.
The scoring/grading/Parents-Teachers Conference did not go well because
Some parents arrived late for the meeting, missing the start of the exchange between the

Activity 1: Developing an Initial Research Action Plan

A. Observe/Notice
What problem/concern have I noticed that affect teaching-learning?
Examples response: The problem I have noticed is that there is a lot of competition in
the classroom. The slow learners are left behind.

B. Reflect
Think deeply of the problem and your observation. Why is this happening? Can the
slow learners be helped? How will it be done?
Example response: I think most of the activities are very competitive. There are
always, winners or losers. The smart students overrule the poor students thus often
they continue to be losers. With this situation, I believe, that I should modify my
classroom strategy.
 Write your reflective response to the problem you stated:

C. Plan for Action

Key questions:
- What will I do as a teacher to solve the problem?

- How will I describe my intervention, innovation, or actions to be

identified problem?

- How long will I take to introduce the intervention?

- With whom shall I work?

- What materials do I need?

- Are methods, participants, data collection, time tables considered in

my Plan for Action?

Example response: my plan is to introduce cooperative learning in the classroom. I create a

mixed ability grouping with fast, average and slow learners in their activities. I will rotate the
leadership in the group, so that each one will have a chance. The bright will assist or help the
slow ones. I will try out for eight weeks. I think I can work alone in with my students. I need
only tables and chairs or if not available, arm chairs arranged in circles will be an alternative.
