KEMLAYAN, SURAKARTA

SITE INVENTORY
Site Plan

Kemlayan is one of subdistrict in Serengan, Surakarta, Central Java, Indonesia near the
Mangkunegaran palace. Kemlayan Village is famous with its traditional arts, especially Karawitan that

continue to be a maestro (people who expert in traditional art).

1. The Declining of Cultural Identity Due to Decreased Cultural Activities
No younger generation who continue to become maestro and less interested in traditional arts
Lack of traditional art practices for children to become familiar with their culture
Lack of cultural promotional activities and platforms
Most of the land usage is
