The legal requirement for teachers to be accredited ensures that students and children in every school or early
childhood service across NSW are being taught by a qualified teacher, who has a working with children check
clearance, meets national teaching standards, and regularly completes professional learning.
Under the Teacher Accreditation Act 2004 teachers in NSW must pay an annual fee as a condition of their
accreditation. A teacher may have their accreditation revoked or suspended by NESA if they fail to comply with this
condition.
