CONSTRUCTIONS - AREA
1. Triangles of the same area
Learning objective :

Draw a triangle of sides 4 , 5 , 6 centimetres . Draw a right triangle of the same

area .

Step 1: Draw a triangle of sides 4 , 5 , 6 centimetres .

Step 2: Draw a line parallel to the base through the third vertex .

Step 3: The line drawn perpendicular to the base through A and the line drawn parallel

to the base through the third vertex intersect at P .

Step 4: Join PB .

Area of the triangle ACB = Area of the triangle APB

Draw a triangle of sides 5 , 6 , 8 centimetres . Draw an isosceles triangle of the same

area .

Step 1: Draw a triangle of sides 5 , 6 , 8 centimetres .

Step 2: Draw the perpendicular bisector of the base .

Step 3: Draw a line parallel to the base through the third vertex .

through the third vertex intersect at P .

Step 5: Join PA and PB .

2. A quadrilateral and a triangle with the same area

Learning objective :

Draw a rhombus of sides 6 centimetres and one angle 600 . Draw a triangle of the same

area .

Step 2: Draw the diagonal BD .

3. A regular pentagon and a triangle with the same area
Learning objective :

Draw a regular pentagon of sides 4 centimetres . Draw a triangle of the same area .

Step 1: Draw a regular pentagon of sides 4 centimetres .

CONSTRUCTIONS – NEW NUMBERS
Draw a square of area 11 square centimetres .

Learning objective :

Any odd number other than 1 can be expressed as the difference of the squares of two

consecutive natural numbers .

Step 1: Draw a right triangle of hypotenuse 6 centimetres and another side 5 centimetres

Another method

Draw an equilateral triangle of perimeter √ 90 centimetres.


Perimeter = √ 90 = √ 3 × 3 × 10 = 3 √ 10 cm

Step 1: Draw a right triangle of perpendicular sides 3 and 1 centimetres

Step 2: Draw an equilateral triangle with the hypotenuse of the above right triangle

as side .

1.Equilateral triangle with all vertices on a circle
Learning objective :

Draw a circle of radius 3 centimetres and draw an equilateral triangle with all vertices

on this circle .

Step 1: Draw a circle of radius 3 centimetres .

Step 2: Draw a radius .

Step 3: Draw a perpendicular bisector (AB) of this radius .

Step 4: Mark a point C which is at the same distance from A and B .

Step 5: Join AC and BC .

Another Method

Step 1: Draw a circle of radius 3 centimetres .

Step 2: Draw three radii 1200 apart .

Step 3: Join the ends of these radii .

2. CIRCUMCIRCLE OF A TRIANGLE .

Learning objective :

Draw a triangle of sides 5 , 6 , 8 centimetres and draw its circumcircle .

Step 1: Draw a triangle of sides 5 , 6 , 8 centimetres .

Step 2 : Draw the perpendicular bisectors of any two sides .

Step 3 : Take the point of intersection of the perpendicular bisectors of the sides as the

centre of the circle and the distance to one vertex from this as radius ,draw a circle .

CONSTRUCTIONS – PARALLEL LINES


1. Divide a line in the fixed ratio
Learning objective :

Draw a line of length 10 centimetres and divide it in the ratio 3 : 4 .

Step 1: Draw a line 10 centimetres long .

Step 2: At one end of the above line , draw a line 7 centimetres long at a slant .

Step 3: Divide the slanted line into 3 centimetres and 4 centimetres .

Step 4: Join the ends of the lines .

Step 5: Draw a line parallel to the joined line through the point of division of the slanted

line .

2. Triangle with a fixed perimeter and the fixed ratio of sides
Learning objective :

Draw a triangle with perimeter 11 centimetres and sides in the ratio 2 : 3 : 4 .

Step 1: Draw a line 11 centimetres long .

Step 2: At one end of the above line , draw a line 9 centimetres long at a slant .

Step 3: Divide the slanted line into 2 centimetres , 3 centimetres and 4 centimetres .

Draw a rectangle with perimeter 13 centimetres and sides in the ratio 4 : 3 .


Step 1: Draw a line 6.5 centimetres long .

Step 2: At one end of the above line , draw a line 7 centimetres long at a slant .

Step 3: Divide the slanted line into 4 centimetres and 3 centimetres .

Step 4: Join the ends of the lines .
