CHỦ ĐỀ 11: PREPOSITIONS (GIỚI TỪ)

- Giới từ là từ hoặc nhóm từ thường được dùng trước danh từ hoặc đại từ để chỉ sự liên hệ
giữa danh từ hoặc đại từ này với các thành phần khác trong câu.

- Các loại giới từ:

1. GIỚI TỪ CHỈ THỜI GIAN

Giới từ Cách sử dụng Ví dụ

In  Tháng/năm/mùa in September,
 Thể kỷ, thập niên in 1999,
 Buổi trong ngày, in Summer,
morning, afternoon, in the 18th century,
evening in the morning,...
in the future/past: trong tương lai/ quá khứ
in (good) time for: kịp giờ
in good/bad moon: tâm trạng tốt/tệ
in the end/beginning: cuối cùng/ lúc đầu

On  thứ trong tuần on Monday,

 ngày trong tháng/năm on 15 April,
 ngày trong kỳ nghỉ on Christmst Day,
hoặc các buổi trong on Sunday morning,
ngày cụ thể on my birthday,…
on holiday: đi nghỉ
on vacation: nghỉ việc
on business: đi công tác
on duty: đang làm nhiệm vụ
on an excursion: trong một chuyến du ngoạn
on purpose: có chủ định
on time: đúng giờ

At  chỉ thời điểm at lunch time,

 khi nói về những kỳ at 5 o’clock,
nghỉ (toàn bộ những at the weekend,
ngày trong kỳ nghỉ) at Christmas,…

 cho cuối tuần at night: vào ban đêm

 trước giờ at noon: vào buổi trưa
at lunch time: vào giờ ăn trưa
at midday: vào giữa ngày
at the moment/ at present: bây giờ
at times: thỉnh thoảng
at dawn: khi bình minh
at dusk: khi hoàng hôn
at the same time: cùng lúc

Until/till Đến, cho đến (một thời điểm Until/til half past nine,..
được nói rõ)

Dùng trước tên một tòa nhà
khi ta đề cập tới hoạt động /
sự kiện thường xuyên diễn
ra trong đó
Chỉ nơi làm việc, học tập
In
Vị trí bên trong 1 diện tích
hay một không gian 3 chiều
Dùng trước tên làng, thị
trấn, thành phố, đất nước
Dùng với phương tiện đi lại
bằng xe hơi / taxi
Dùng chỉ phương hướng và
một số cụm từ chỉ nơi chốn
On Chỉ vị trí trên bề mặt
Chỉ nơi chốn hoặc số tầng

Among Nghĩa: ở giữa (hơn 2 người/ She was sitting among a crowd of children.

In front of/ Nghĩa: Phía trước/ phía sau

Opposite Nghĩa: Đối diện

3. GIỚI TỪ CHỈ SỰ CHUYỂN ĐỘNG

Giới từ Cách sử dụng Ví dụ

To Nghĩa: đến, tới I walk to school everyday.
Across Nghĩa: vượt qua, băng qua The explorers walked across the desert.
về phía bên kia
Into Nghĩa: vào trong Come into the house
Towards Nghĩa: di chuyển về hướng The child came running towards me.
Along Nghĩa: dọc theo I saw her running along the road.

By Nghĩa: ngang qua

Over Nghĩa: vượt qua một cái gì
đó
From... to Nghĩa: từ ... đến We drove from Hanoi to HCM.
Round/ Nghĩa: quanh The earth moves round the sun.
Around
Through Nghĩa: xuyên qua We walked through the wood.
Out of Nghĩa: ra khỏi She got out of the car and went to the house.
Up >< down Nghĩa: lên >< xuống He run up the stairs.
