The Grand Rapids Symphony will be holding auditions for the full-time, tenure-track position of
Principal Clarinet. These auditions will be held February 1 – 4, 2024, at DeVos Performance Hall in
Downtown Grand Rapids.

The Grand Rapids Symphony is an ICSOM orchestra with a 40-week season.

The number of candidates who apply will determine the exact times of the audition. If you would like to
participate in this audition, please send a refundable deposit check for $75 (payable to “Grand Rapids
Symphony”) to: Grand Rapids Symphony – Clarinet Audition, 300 Ottawa Avenue NW, Suite 100, Grand
Rapids, MI 49503) and a current résumé (1-page) all with a postmark no later than December 22, 2023.
You will be e-mailed an audition time, map, and directions by Monday, January 8, 2024. Please make
sure that your current/valid email address is included on your résumé as all communication for this
audition will take place via email.

Responsibilities : the 2023-2024 Season began on September 10, 2023 and continues through May 18, 2024,
plus it includes four weeks in the summer beginning July 7, 2024 and continuing through August 3, 2024.

Salary and Benefits for this position for the 2023-2024 season include a $54,995.20 minimum annual
salary. Included also is a 2.0% contribution + 2.0% match to a 401K plan, paid instrument insurance,
Medical/Dental insurance, Long Term Disability insurance, $300 EMG. Please note that the current
Master Agreement expires at the conclusion of the 2023-2024 season and salaries/other employment terms
for next season (and beyond) will be negotiated at some point during the current season.

Employment shall commence on March 19, 2024 or as soon after as the winner’s availability and the
Grand Rapids Symphony’s schedules allow. Musicians taking this audition should only do so with the
intention of accepting the position if it is offered. Due to the activity level of this position, residence near
or in Grand Rapids is recommended but not mandatory.

Please note that all applicants must be presently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis. At
present this position is part-time, although the actual hours of employment may vary. The audition
committee of the Grand Rapids Symphony reserves the right to dismiss immediately any candidates
not meeting the highest professional standards.
