    1. List five (5) types of plant hormones and their functions. (5m)

    Plants hormone Functions

    Auxin (IAA) Stimulates stem elongation and Regulates


    development of fruit.

    Cytokinins Affect root growth and differentiation

    Gibberellins Stimulate flowering and development of fruit

    Abscisic acid Closes stomata during water stress

    Ethylene Promotes fruit ripening

    2. Determine the role of auxin in cell elongation. (5m)


    -Auxin increases the activity of proton pumps.
    -This will make the cell wall becomes more acidic.
    -Wedge-shaped expansions, activated by low pH, separate cellulose microfibrils from
    cross-linking polysaccharides.
    - The exposed cross-linking polysaccharides are are now more accessible to cell wall
    enzymes.
    -The enzymatic cleaving of the cross-linking polysaccharides allows the
    microfibrils to slide. The extensibility of the cell wall is increased. Turgor
    causes the cell to expand.
    -With the cellulose loosened, the cell can elongate.
