1. Attempt any FIVE question(s), each question carries 12 marks.

1. Draw a block diagram of a Microcomputer. Explain the working of a Microprocessor.

Discuss the evolution of microprocessors through the five generations.
2. Explain the components of architecture of 8085 microprocessor with the help of diagram.
Write about the busses used by 8085 microprocessor to communicate with memory and
other devices.
3. Explain the fetch, decode and execute phases of microprocessor instruction cycle.
Differentiate between immediate addressing and register addressing.
4. What is the purpose of timing diagram? How do you identify number of machine cycles in
an instruction? Draw and explain I/O read timing diagram and memory write timing
diagram.
5. Explain the architecture of RISC processors with the help of a block diagram. Write about
RISC pipelining. Compare the architectural characteristics of RISC and CISC.
6. What is the difference between microprocessor and microcontroller? Discuss the memory
organization of the 8051 microcontroller.
7. What is serial communication and how does it work? Discuss the differences between
synchronous and asynchronous serial communication in detail.
8. List the functions of 8284 clock generator. Draw the logic circuit and discuss its working.
