Distinctive features of Ibadah

1. Ali performs Salah according to what has been taught by his forefathers. Based on that,
he used to perform his Salat without ending it with Salam.

Does Ali have a discretion to do such a thing? Why?

2. Give your understanding of the following in relation to features of Ibadah.

a. The Prophet S.A.W. also said to his own daughter Fatimah: “O Fatimah, daughter
of MuÍammad: I shall be of no help to you before Allah.”

b. The Prophet S.A.W. said: “The whole earth has been rendered for me a mosque-
pure and clean.”

c. The travelers whose journey reaches two marhalah or more are given the
concession to perform Salah al-Jama’ and Qasar.

PROFESSION AND WORK AS ACTS OF WORSHIP (AL-IBADAH)

A. What is the understanding of “sanctioned by Shari’ah?

B. Does Islam consider the following acts/works as Ibadah? Why?

1. Kamal is an account officer whose responsibility is to manage the account and


finance of his gambling company.

2. Aminah operates a halal mart in her neighborhood. She provides halal food,
frozen food, and other necessary groceries.

3. Pak Abu is a well known expert in landscaping. He has been giving his services
to his clients for more than 10 years. His prime objective in providing such
services is to gain recognition from the clients and the public.

4. Amin works as a clerk at a company A. He is required to be in the office at 9.00


am. However, he normally reaches the office 10 minutes late. Besides, he always
refuses to cooperate with his fellow workers.

5. Ahmad operates a food truck selling Korean food from 5.00 pm to 11.00 pm. The
busiest time is between 6.30 - 8.30 pm as he gets a lot of customers. Thus, he
decides not to take any break even to perform Salah. He understands that he will
generate maximum profit during this period.
