Introduction and Justifications
Over the last few years, Ethiopia has been affected by various shocks, including
conflict, intercommunal violence, drought, floods, desert locusts and COVID-19
pandemic; and also, Ethiopia suffers from frequent and extreme weather events
(droughts and floods) that affect access to food. Hundreds of thousands of people are
displaced each year due to the droughts, conflicts etc. consequently BoWCA with the
support of UNICEF have had prepared emergency response plan regarding addressing
child protection needs and concerns.
The activities of this emergency response plan were contained hiring and placing social
workers to the sites or locations of internal displaced peoples (IDPs), training of social
workers, mobilizing social work activities, supporting interagency case management
system, organizing and strengthening community based child protection mechanisms,
establishing coordination cluster between child protection organizations, provision of
psychosocial support and counseling services, and facilitation of child friendly spaces.
Accordingly, Roll out Psychosocial Support PFA Training for Front line workers to
provide girls and boys with psychosocial support through multi-sectoral programming
interventions in the Drought affected Weradas is part of emergency response plan
which is designed to provide short term training to the front line social workers and
officers from child protection actors.
Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) first aid training will focus on
national cross sectoral MHPSS framework to improve capacity building of staff to better
support the MHPSS needs of children and their caregivers. The workshop will provide
participants with practical MHPSS tools to critically assess and support children and
