Abstraction WHAT IS HILOT?
(25 minutes) - It is the traditional massage using the bare hands and the use of
coconut oil and banana leaves
- A massage. It is a holistic art and science of healing of the Filipino
people. It encompasses a wide variety of techniques beyond the treatment of
stressed muscles
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF HILOT WELLNESS MASSAGE?
- for relaxation
WELLNESS – is the integration of mind, body, and emotion.
The 5 HILOT STROKES
1. Long deep stroke -HAGOD- are long deep strokes usually used for the
extremities and the back. To distribute oil, calm the muscle,
beginning/transitional or finishing stroke.
2. Short light stroke HAPLOS- short light strokes. To distribute evenly.
To soften the muscle tissue.
3. One finger press PINDOT- one finger press. Use to stimulate or
massage small areas of muscles which are attached to the bone
especially joints.
4. Two or more finger press PISIL- two or more finger press. To
stimulate or massage small muscles and the insertions.
5. Grasping PIGA- grasping with the hand. It is used to calm, and relax
the big and wide muscles.

TITLE: HILOT WITH BANANA LEAF SCANNING
PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE: Given the hilot strokes, you should be able to perform the hilot strokes with banana leaf scanning.

BANANA LEAF SCANNING PROCEDURE:
1. Find a banana leaf. Clean both sides thoroughly.
3. Prepare the massage oil. Spread oil over the bottom side of the leaf strip.
Use oil lavishly.
4. Run the oiled strip over the candle fire until it is very warm, but not too
warm as to burn the skin. This step requires caution to avoid injuries.
5. Gently apply the warm leaf strip over the skin. You can cover the whole
back, or even work with the legs or arms.
6. Let the strips remain stuck to the skin for about 30 minutes.
7. Gently remove the strips one by pulling towards one side. You will see that
each leaf strip is drenched with moisture.
8. Immediately, wipe the skin dry with a soft cloth, and wear adequate
clothing to prevent the cold from seeping in.
HILOT STROKES POCEDURE:
1. To begin the massage and to distribute the oil, perform HAGOD STROKES
for 3 repetition
2. To distribute evenly and to soften the muscle tissue do HAPLOS STROKES
for 3 repetitions.
3. For transition, perform HAGOD STROKES for 3 repetitions.
4. Next is PINDOT STROKES for 3 repetition to stimulate or massage small
areas of muscles which attached to the bone especially joints.
5. Followed by HAGOD STROKES for 3 repetitions.
6. Perform PISIL STROKES for 3 repetitions to stimulate massage small
muscles.
7. Followed by HAGOD STROKES for 3 repetitions.
8. Do PIGA STROKES for 3 repetitions to calm and relax the big and wide
muscles.
9. Finish the massage with HAGOD STROKES for 3 repetitions.
