PROBLEM:
Design a double roller chain to transmit 10 hp from a squirrel-cage motor, turning
1200 rpm to a circular saw, the required speed ratio is 4 and is used less than 8
hours/day. Decide upon all the dimensions and parameters for roller chain design
(number of teeth, pitch, width of chain, pitch diameter of sprocket, center distance,
length of chain, etc.). Identify the factor of safety against fatigue failure with the chain
pull as the force on the chain. Include in the design a recommended shaft, and key
and their attachments.
