PROBLEM:

A 60 hp air pump blower in 18 hr/day service running at a speed of 500 rpm is driven

by means of a multiple v-belt drive which is powered by a compressor-stator motor

with speed 1300 rpm. The center distance must be between 30 to 40 inches. Select

the appropriate standard sizes of sheave and pitch length if the v-belts. Identify the

number of v-belts and design the V-grooved sheave. You may assume materials for

your sheave that is safe for your design.

NOMENCLATURE FOR FLAT BELT

N1 – Speed of smaller sheave

N2 – Speed of larger sheave
D1 – Diameter of smaller sheave
D2 - Diameter of larger sheave
Vm – Rotational speed
L - Length of the belt
C – Center distance between the center of the two sheaves
P – transmitted power
Nsf – service factor
