ELECTROMAGNETIC INDUCTION
 Due to the induced emf, a current flows in the coil
which is called induced current.

Lenz’s Law
It states that the polarity of the induced emf (or the
direction of induced current) is such that it always opposes
its cause of production.

Faraday’s Laws of
Electromagnetic Induction
First Law: According to this law, whenever the magnetic
flux linked with a circuit changes, an emf is induced in it.

1. Armature: It consists of a large number of turns of


insulated copper wire wounded over a soft iron core.
2. Magnetic Poles: These are used to provide the magnetic
field to the armature coil.
3. Slip Rings: R1 and R2 are two hollow metallic rings. The
ends of armature coil are connected to these rings. These
rings rotate with the rotation of armature.
4. Brushes: B1 and B2 are called brushes. They are kept in
light contact with the slip rings R1 and R2 respectively.
The brushes pass the current from the armature coil to the
load resistance R.
Working: When the armature coil is rotated between the
magnetic poles, the magnetic flux linked with the armature
coil changes continuously. Hence an emf is induced across
the end of the armature coil.
