1 Approved Setting-Out Details: Showing area, location & elevation for Drawing/Survey
cut, fill & backfill etc. as per approved Survey controlled points. Report

B Placement of Soil Fill / Backfill & Compaction: Level/Layer

2 Compact the natural ground platform that will receive filling at least 90%
M.D.D. prior to placing any fill material on top of it.

3 Place soil fill on subgrades free of mud or contains excess water.

Uniformly moisten or aerate subgrade and each subsequent fill or backfill

soil layer before compaction to within 2 percent of optimum moisture
content.
Place soil materials in layer by layer in loose depth for material
compacted by heavy compaction equipment & not more than 100mm loose
5 depth for material compacted by hand -operated tamping machine

Place backfill and fill soil materials evenly on all sides of structures to
6 required elevations, and uniformly along the full length of each structure.

Compaction Test Requirements: ( BS 1377)

Under structures, buildings, slab, steps & pavements: Scarify and re-
7 compact top 300 mm of existing subgrade to 100 percent and each layerof
backfill or fill soil material underneath the top 250mm at 85 percent.
Walk Ways: Scarify and re-compact top 150 mm below subgrade to 95
8 percent and compact each layer of backfill or fill soil material underneath
the top 150mm at 90 percent.

Under turf, lawns or unpaved areas: Scarify and re-compact top 150
9 mm below subgrade and compact each layer of backfill or fill soil
material at 98 percent

10 For Utility Trenches: Compact each layer of initial and final backfill soil
material at 98 percent.
