General Maintenance for LNG Carriers

For Marine Applications

Undertaking coating maintenance and repair work whilst an LNG carrier is at sea is a technically
challenging, extremely time consuming and expensive operation. Due to the nature of their cargo,
LNG carriers also pose a greater health & safety risk than many other vessel types.

However, such work can now be undertaken in a cost-effective, safe and environmentally friendly
manner.

This is due to the unique benefits afforded by Chemco’s innovative solvent-free, wet & rust tolerant
coating system:

• Epo-chem™ RS 500P
• Epo-chem™ RA 500M

The solvent-free and non-flammable nature of this coating system ensures health & safety is significantly
improved when compared with traditional solvent-based paints. There is no requirement for costly
grit blasting and all surface preparation and coating application work surrounding the LNG tanks can be
carried out whilst the vessel is at quay side, in dock or in full operation.

RS 500P & RA 500M can be utilised to great effect in almost all areas of an LNG carrier, including
cofferdams, void spaces and engine rooms.

This system has been IMO approved for application in sea water ballast tanks. It has also been certified
by NSF for potable water applications and FDA approved for food contact and potable water.

System Benefits
• Solvent-free
• Wet & rust tolerant
• 100% VOC reduction
• No disruption to onboard operations
• Significantly reduced H&S and Fire Hazard
• No requirements for grit blasting
• Reduced environmental impact
• No requirements for dehumidification or ventilation
• No humidity or dew point restrictions
• No recoating limitations
• Compatible with almost all coatings, including shop primers
• Coatings can ‘continue to cure’ underwater
