Connection Guide: EtherNet/IPTM Communication


This manual explains how to use EtherNet/IP communication
to connect the code reader to the OMRON CJ2 Series.

1 EQUIPMENT USED

Prepare the following equipment.


USB cable
Power supply unit PA202 CPU unit with built-in EtherNet/IPTM
function
CJ2H-CPU64-EIP

2 Start AutoID Network Navigator.

Double-click the “AutoID Network Navigator” shortcut on the desktop.

Code reader Ethernet cable Control cable*1

If the following information is displayed, the connection has been


established.

2 CONNECTION METHOD

Overall connection diagram


Connect the CJ2H-CPU64-EIP and the code reader as shown below.

CONFIGURING OMRON PLC CJ2
SERIES SETTINGS

1 Start CX-Programmer and establish an online


connection with the PLC.
Start CX-Programmer.
Use a USB cable to connect the PC and the PLC. In the “PLC” menu,
go to “Auto Online,” and then click “Direct Online.”

In the “Direct Online” screen, select “USB connection,” and then


establish the connection.

4 Click “Start the setup wizard,” and then configure


the settings as shown below.

When the following dialog box is displayed, click “No.”

When the connection is established, the online connection icon


turns on.

5 Click the send settings button in the upper right


of AutoID Network Navigator to send the settings to
the code reader.

6 Click on the green light to release the connection to


the barcode reader.
When the code reader is connected to AutoID Network Navigator,
communication with the PLC is not available.

This completes the configuration of the barcode reader.

2 Set the PLC IP address. 3 Use Network Configurator to upload the network
configuration.
Double-click “I/O Table and Unit Setup” in the project workspace. Right-click “[1500] CJ2M-EIP21” under “Built-in Port/Inner Board” in
the I/O table window, go to “Start Special Application” on the menu
that appears, and then click “Start with Settings Inherited.”

Double-click “[1500] CJ2M-EIP21” under “Built-in Port/Inner Board” in


the I/O table window.

Select “Network Configurator” for the special application.

Click the “TCP/IP” tab, and then set the IP address and subnet
mask of the PLC. Then, click “Transfer[PC to Unit]” to transfer the
parameters to the unit.

In Network Configurator, in the “Option” menu, go to “Select Interface,”


and then click “CJ2 USB/Serial Port.”

* Before you can transfer the parameters, you have to put the CJ2 Series in online
mode.
* The fourth number in the IP address (192.168.0.xxx) has to match the value of the In Network Configurator, in the “Network” menu, click “Connect.”

Restart the unit to enable the transferred parameters. After the unit
restarts, click “OK” in the “Edit Parameters” window (shown in the
above figure).
For the interface selection, set “Port Type” to “USB,” “Port” to “OMR0,”
and “Baud Rate” to “115200 Bit/s.”

Next, click “Back Plane,” “#0 CJ2B-EIP21,” and then “TCP:2.” A search will be performed for the devices connected to the same

4 Install the EDS file.

In Network Configurator, in the “EDS File” menu, click “Install.”

Select “Use the existing network” under “Target Network,” and then
click “OK.”

When the file is installed correctly, the code reader icon is displayed
as shown in the lower-right figure.
* The code reader EDS file is in the AutoID Network Navigator installation folder.

When the connection is established correctly, the lamp is displayed in


blue as shown below.

In Network Configurator, in the “Network” menu, click “Upload.”

When the following dialog box is displayed, click “Yes.”

5 Configure the tag settings for the sending/receiving
area. 6 Set the tag association between the PLC and
the SR.

Next, click the “Out - Produce” tab, and then click “New.”
Set “Name” to “D01200” (the leading address of output data memory)
and “Size” to 76 bytes.
* These data sizes are the default setting values in the EDS file.

After the registration is complete, click “OK” on the tag editing screen
to register the added tags as a tag set.

finished, click “Close.”

1 Transfer the setup parameters.

Right-click the PLC icon in the network window of Network


Configurator, go to “Parameter” on the menu that appears, and then
click “Download” to write the setup parameters to the PLC.
After the parameters have been written, exit Network Configurator.

2 Monitor the reading data.

Set the reading start request bit, the eighth bit of “D01200,” to ON to

In CX-Programmer, on the "PLC" menu, go to “Edit,” and then click


“Memory.”

To display memory in binary format, click the binary icon . The reading data is stored in data memory starting at “D01022.”
Also, set “Start Address” to “1200.” Set “Start Address” to “1000” to check the reading data.
* To display the contents of memory as text, click the text icon .

When the data is read correctly, the details of the reading data are
displayed as shown below.

In the “Online” menu, click “Monitor” to monitor the EtherNet/IPTM


communication.

Set the reading start request bit, the eighth bit of “D01200,” to ON to
start reading with the code reader. To stop reading, set the reading
start request bit, the eighth bit of “D01200,” to OFF.
If the reading operation fails, “ERROR” is displayed as shown below.
