Six Sigma is a disciplined, statistical-based, data-driven

approach and continuous improvement methodology for

eliminating defects in a product, process or service. ...Six
Sigma can also be thought of as a measure of process
performance, with Six Sigma being the goal, based on the
defects per million.

Six Sigma is a method that provides organizations tools to

improve the capability of their business processes. This
increase in performance and decrease in process variation helps
lead to defect reduction and improvement in profits, employee
morale, and quality of products or services.

Lean Vs Six Sigma

Lean focuses on analyzing workflow to reduce cycle time and

eliminate waste. Leanstrives to maximize value to the
customer while using a few resources as possible. ... To
summarize the main difference between Lean vs Six
Sigma, lean looks at ways to increase flow while Six
Sigma focuses on achieving consistent results.
The objective of Six Sigma quality is to reduce process output
variation so that on a long term basis, which is the customer's
aggregate experience with our process over time, this will result
in no more than 3.4 defect parts per million (PPM)
opportunities (or 3.4 defects per million opportunities –
DPMO).

Six Sigma TOOLS

Consider the define, measure, analyze, improve, control

(DMAIC) roadmap and maximize quality tools along the
improvement journey. This series provides an overview of
seven common Lean Six Sigma tools: 5S system, the seven
wastes, value stream mapping, kaizen, flow, visual workspace,
and voice of the customer.

Goal of Lean
The goal of Lean is to deliver the maximum customer value in
the shortest sustainable lead time while providing the highest
possible quality to Customers and society as a whole. High
morale, safety, and customer delight are additional goals and
benefits.
Who Created Lean Six Sigma?

Bill Smith and Bob Galvin, both of

Motorola, developed the Six Sigma quality improvement
process in 1986. The idea of Six Sigma is to improve quality
so that the number of defects becomes so few that they are
statistically insignificant.

5 steps of Six Sigma?

DMAIC is the problem-solving methodology behind Lean Six
Sigma. It consists of five Phases: Define, Measure, Analyze,
Improve and Control.

Benefits of using Six Sigma to improve a business operation.

Customer Satisfaction: With Six Sigma methodologies in use,
a business will implement improved processes and better
quality control, both of which should result in a better product.
That, in turn, will lead to more satisfied customers.
