2 MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
2.1 Introduction
All the maintenance operations on ELFO Lifting Platform must be carried out by
authorised and qualified technical personnel of specialized Maintenance
Company, according to current legislation.
Maintenance includes all the operations necessary to ensure correct and safe operation of the
platform after installation is complete. Maintenance also includes rescuing passengers and making
adjustments, including repairing and replacing broken or worn components.
In particular, in addition to the normal cleaning and lubrication operations of the parts, the
maintenance technician must periodically provide, according to the needs of the system and the
additional prescriptions imposed by the laws in force at national level, to:
· check that the safety devices (not actuated in normal conditions) are always in working
condition
· check the regular operation of mechanical and electrical devices and, in particular the
regular functioning of landing doors and locks
· check the state of conservation of the hoist ropes
· check the insulation of the electrical system and the efficiency of the equipotential
connections
Generally, for the purposes of this document, in maintenance operations are not
included:
· the replacement of main components such as the car, the control panel,
etc., or safety components such as safety gear, etc. even if the
characteristics of the new component are identical to those of the
original
· replacement or modernization of the system including changes to its
performance characteristics

ELFO LIFTING PLATFORM Date 08/06/2022
INSTRUCTION MANUAL – Part III - MAINTENANCE Edition: 01 - (00)
The ELFO lifting platform is designed to meet the health and safety requirements
of the 2006/42 EC Machinery Directive. The risk analysis proposed by EP cannot
be absolute: each specialized Maintenance Company must therefore make its
own risk analysis according to the objective reality in which it operates and the
information received from the owner of the system.
The Maintenance Company must inform the owner of the system about any
activities to be carried out according to the risk analysis evaluated
The risk analysis must be reviewed and integrated when changes are made with
respect to the time of installation completion; maintenance instructions must be
updated to take account of these changes
The results of the visits carried out both for preventive maintenance and in
occasion of system failures must be recorded in a special booklet made available
at the request of the system owner

· The roof of the lift platform car is not walkable. All routine maintenance
operations must be carried out from inside the car.
· If more than one person works on the platform at the same time, an
appropriate system of communication must be provided between these
persons.
Arrange definition and protection barriers for the work area (space of at least 70
cm in front of the control panel and power unit) and ensure non-unauthorised
personnel cannot access the machinery area.
Open the control panel, keeping in mind that there are high voltage devices
inside.
The main power switch must be able to be locked in the open position to
prevent unintended operation
The emergency unblocking key must always be used to access the hoistway
through the floor doors and not the movement of the car with the doors open
Before accessing the lift hoistway, ensure the floor door blocking devices operate
efficiently.
Before accessing the lift hoistway, identify a safe exit from the hoistway itself. Pay
particular attention to the fact that the landing doors cannot close behind the
operator.
The landing doors absolutely must not remain open longer than necessary. In the
event that the doors must remain open due to technical requirements, the
hoistway must be protected using the special regulatory parapet.
Always make sure you have adequate lighting for every job.
There are extremely reduced safety spaces at the ends of the hoistway.
Danger of crushing, shearing and falling are always present for activities in the
hoistway area.

c) Moving the car downhill visually check the presence of broken wires
d) Check the wear, stretching and correct stress.
e) Check the status of the attacks; in particular: check the wear, deterioration and
corrosion (not allowed) and check the tightness of the terminals present
Ropes are generally removed from the service using the visible number of
broken wires as the sole criterion for assessing their status. The evaluation is
made considering the number of broken wires visible in the most damaged
section of the rope; however, the entire rope must be inspected to identify any
abnormal breakage triggers. It must be remembered that breakages are often
difficult to detect because the ends of the broken wire remain in their primitive
position and do not protrude from the surface of the rope. The main parameters
to be used to determine the need for rope replacement are:
a) The device must be checked from inside the car once the fitted wall has been removed;
unless otherwise indicated the movement of the machine must be done with the
inspection maneuver
b) Check the integrity of the pilot cable through entire its length; if signs of deterioration
are found, the cable must be replaced
a) The device must be checked from inside the car once the fitted wall has been removed;
unless otherwise indicated the movement of the machine must be done with the
inspection maneuver
b) Check that all components are free to move and not worn
c) Check the lubrication of the supports
d) Correct operation verification

clearance, move the cabin up or down in order to find the proper space).
5. Loose the rope on the fixed arm of the pillar, up to the safety gear switch got open
(Visual check).
6. Get off the cabin and close the landing door.
7. Make and emergency manual lowering acting on the proper device on the pump unit.
8. Get into the cabin and verify the safety gear is actually engaged on the guide rails,
blocking the cabin.
9. Get off the cabin and check the piston doesn’t close while acting on the manual lowering
button/valve on the pump unit.
10. Reset the lift and remake the test on the other rope.
For all the operations with operator not in the cabin, is necessary to close the
door in order to avoid any potential access.
