2 MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
2.1 Introduction

All the maintenance operations on ELFO Lifting Platform must be carried out by
authorised and qualified technical personnel of specialized Maintenance
Company, according to current legislation.

Maintenance includes all the operations necessary to ensure correct and safe operation of the
platform after installation is complete. Maintenance also includes rescuing passengers and making
adjustments, including repairing and replacing broken or worn components.
In particular, in addition to the normal cleaning and lubrication operations of the parts, the
maintenance technician must periodically provide, according to the needs of the system and the
additional prescriptions imposed by the laws in force at national level, to:

· check that the safety devices (not actuated in normal conditions) are always in working
condition
· check the regular operation of mechanical and electrical devices and, in particular the
regular functioning of landing doors and locks
· check the state of conservation of the hoist ropes
· check the insulation of the electrical system and the efficiency of the equipotential
connections

Generally, for the purposes of this document, in maintenance operations are not
included:
· the replacement of main components such as the car, the control panel,
etc., or safety components such as safety gear, etc. even if the
characteristics of the new component are identical to those of the
original
· replacement or modernization of the system including changes to its
performance characteristics

2.2 General warnings for the Maintenance Company

The ELFO lifting platform is designed to meet the health and safety requirements
of the 2006/42 EC Machinery Directive. The risk analysis proposed by EP cannot
be absolute: each specialized Maintenance Company must therefore make its
own risk analysis according to the objective reality in which it operates and the
information received from the owner of the system.

The Maintenance Company must inform the owner of the system about any
activities to be carried out according to the risk analysis evaluated

The risk analysis must be reviewed and integrated when changes are made with
respect to the time of installation completion; maintenance instructions must be
updated to take account of these changes

A maintenance plan must be prepared that includes periodic interventions

according to the specific technical characteristics and use of the system

The results of the visits carried out both for preventive maintenance and in
occasion of system failures must be recorded in a special booklet made available
at the request of the system owner

All maintenance operations must be carried out by appropriately trained and

qualified personnel, qualified for knowledge and practical experience and
provided with the necessary instructions to allow the required operations to be
carried out safely.

If the maintenance technician detects a danger in progress, he must suspend the

service of the platform until the system has been repaired providing to inform
the owner.

The maintenance technician must promptly promote the repair or replacement

of broken or worn parts.

2.3 Special warnings for the maintenance technician

The following are the most important warnings that must always be respected during the
maintenance operations on the ELFO platform. In following chapters these warnings will be
considered known and no longer repeated.

· All maintenance operations and all workers involved in maintenance or repair

work must scrupulously follow the criteria indicated in the accident
prevention and safety regulations. Failure to observe safety regulations or
lack of attention can lead to serious accidents.
· Use appropriate personal protective equipment according to the activities to
be carried out; in particular:

Protective clothing Safety harness

Safety footwear Protective helmet

Gloves

The use of personal protective equipment must under no circumstances generate

other hazards
· In the event that, during maintenance operations, it is necessary to exclude
the operation of a safety device, it is always necessary to put oneself in such
a condition that failure of the device does not cause a dangerous situation.
· Solutions must always be provided that prevent access to the work areas by
personnel not involved in the activities in progress. In particular, before
performing any work on the system, place an "Out of Service" signal on the
landing doors of each floor.
· The ELFO lifting platform is a hydraulic-driven machine. All precautions must
be taken to contain the dangers deriving from operations carried out on
pressurized circuits. Before opening any part of the hydraulic circuit, it is
always necessary to bring the oil pressure to zero and make sure that
uncontrolled movement of the car and piston is prevented.
· In the event that you work inside the hoistway below the car, it is necessary
to block the platform with an appropriate support able to prevent any
accidental movement of the car (for example, activating the safety gear
device).

Pag. 6 of 31
Doc. TM00000131
ELFO LIFTING PLATFORM Date 08/06/2022
INSTRUCTION MANUAL – Part III - MAINTENANCE Edition: 01 - (00)

· The roof of the lift platform car is not walkable. All routine maintenance
operations must be carried out from inside the car.
· If more than one person works on the platform at the same time, an
appropriate system of communication must be provided between these
persons.

2.3.1 Maintenance activities in the machine area

Arrange definition and protection barriers for the work area (space of at least 70
cm in front of the control panel and power unit) and ensure non-unauthorised
personnel cannot access the machinery area.

Open the control panel, keeping in mind that there are high voltage devices
inside.

The main power switch must be able to be locked in the open position to
prevent unintended operation

2.3.2 Maintenance activity in the hoistway

The emergency unblocking key must always be used to access the hoistway
through the floor doors and not the movement of the car with the doors open

Before accessing the lift hoistway, ensure the floor door blocking devices operate
efficiently.

Before accessing the lift hoistway, identify a safe exit from the hoistway itself. Pay
particular attention to the fact that the landing doors cannot close behind the
operator.
The landing doors absolutely must not remain open longer than necessary. In the
event that the doors must remain open due to technical requirements, the
hoistway must be protected using the special regulatory parapet.

Always make sure you have adequate lighting for every job.

There are extremely reduced safety spaces at the ends of the hoistway.

Danger of crushing, shearing and falling are always present for activities in the
hoistway area.

The ELFO lifting platform is designed to guarantee a minimum space of 300 mm

above the level of the car roof so as to contain the danger of crushing. In the case
where the state of the places does not allow to guarantee this space, a mechanical
device with manual operation is foreseen to prevent uncontrolled movements of
the car in the direction of ascent.

WF and A05 frame model

The device consists of a mechanical block mounted on one of the frame uprights.
The device is accessible from inside the car once removed the roof. To operate the
device, it is necessary to loosen the two upper nuts so that the threaded bar

2.3.3 Maintenance operations

All maintenance operations must be performed with machine stopped and

motive power disconnected. If this is not possible due to technical requirements,
additional measures and precautions must be implemented to ensure the safety
both of the workers as well as of other people. Specifically, it is necessary always
to ensure that no one can operate the system or restore voltage intervening on
the main line switch.
The use of permanent jumpers that disconnect the floor door locks or the safety
contacts on the machine is strictly prohibited.

It is strictly forbidden to move the platform by acting directly on the travel

contactors on the control panel

At the end of each operation, exclude the jumpers used and restore the system
conditions

Ordinary maintenance operations involving the inspection of components in the

hoistway must be carried out from inside the car using the machine with the
appropriate inspection maneuver

Most platform components (overtravel contact, manoeuvre

electric system, magnets unit, safety catch device, piston, cables
connection, etc.) can be reached from inside the car once the car
removable panel, piston side has been removed. The opening of
the panel is controlled by an electrical contact that prevents the
normal run of the system.

For the access to the pulley guided head, it is necessary to remove

the removable covering of the roof. The opening of the roof is
controlled by an electric contact that prevents system movement
both in normal and in inspection maneuvers.

2.3.4 Inspection maneuver

Before moving the machine with the inspection maneuver it is mandatory to

program the MAINTENANCE mode on the control board.

Ø Refer to the paragraphs concerning the control board shown in the

Electrical Annex

Inspection operation
Before starting maintenance operations from inside the car it is necessary to
check the correct functioning of the electrical control devices of the removable
car panel and of the removable panel of the car roof as described in chap. 3.

To move the machine during maintenance operations, the car

push-button panel must be used once the fitted wall has been
removed. For movement in upward / downward direction it is
necessary to activate the maintenance button (M) at the same
time as the directional buttons (floor indicators).

Functional requirements

ü The opening of the car equipped wall (mechanical side wall) determines
the opening of an electrical safety contact which:

o excludes normal operation of the system

o excludes the electric levelling or re-levelling system
o does not exclude the automatic movement of the motorized doors

ü The controls of the inspection operating panel are of the maintained

action type; to activate the movement controls it is necessary to
simultaneously press the maintenance button and the floor indicator
button
ü The inspection maneuver is carried out in such a way that during the
journey the stop positions foreseen in the running of the system are not
exceeded.
ü While the car is moving during an inspection maneuver, platform

operation remains under the control of the safety devices

ü The alarm button on the push-button panel maintains the functions
provided in the case of normal driving
ü The STOP button on the push-button panel maintains the functions
provided in the case of normal driving
ü The photocell possibly present in the car keeps the functions provided in
the case of normal driving
ü If the machine is stopped not aligned with the floor the alarm siren sounds

2.4 Maintenance completed

After completing the maintenance work, it is necessary:

· Check that all the maneuvering systems, any enabling keys and the safety
and maintenance switches are restored according to the regulation of
their normal operating status
· Check that all landing doors are closed and locked so that they cannot be
re-opened manually
· Restore the normal driving conditions on the control board by carrying
out the necessary reset operations

Ø Refer to the paragraphs concerning the control board shown in the

Electrical Annex

· Check that the cabinet door containing the control panel has been
correctly closed with its specific key
· Put the emergency door unblocking keys in the storage location assigned
to them
· Record the verification operations on the installation booklet

3 Operational guidelines for periodic maintenance

The checks and tests carried out during periodic maintenance cannot be more
rigorous than those required during the first commissioning of the machine. In
particular, due to their repetition, periodic tests must not cause excessive wear
or impose stresses such as to reduce the safety of the machine.
If the machine remains out of service for a period longer than six months, the
tests required for the first commissioning must be repeated

Pag. 14 of 31
Doc. TM00000131

have been removed; unless otherwise indicated the movement of the machine must be
done with the inspection maneuver

b) Check the state of wear of the pulley grooves

c) Check the condition of the rotation pin
d) Check the condition of the bearings (no abnormal noise should be heard)
e) Check the wear of the pads

Frame pads check

a) The device must be checked from inside the car once the fitted wall has been removed;
unless otherwise indicated the movement of the machine must be done with the
inspection maneuver

b) The clearance of the pads on the guides in the direction of the gauge must be 1 - 2 mm;
longer distances must be recovered by shimming the side pad. If the clearance
perpendicular the gauge direction is greater than 1 - 2 mm it is necessary to replace the
pad.

Guides check
a) The check must be done from inside the car once the fitted wall has been removed;
unless otherwise indicated the movement of the machine must be done with the
inspection maneuver

b) Check the correct fixing of the guides to the supporting structure

c) Remove grease from the guides using rags or paper
d) Dry the guides well.
e) Carefully clean the pads and remove any old, excess lubricant.
f) Lubricate the guides using normal lubricant oil to be placed using, for example, a soft
brush

Checking the suspension cables and their connections

a) The check must be done from inside the car once the fitted wall has been removed;

c) Moving the car downhill visually check the presence of broken wires
d) Check the wear, stretching and correct stress.
e) Check the status of the attacks; in particular: check the wear, deterioration and
corrosion (not allowed) and check the tightness of the terminals present

Ropes are generally removed from the service using the visible number of
broken wires as the sole criterion for assessing their status. The evaluation is
made considering the number of broken wires visible in the most damaged
section of the rope; however, the entire rope must be inspected to identify any
abnormal breakage triggers. It must be remembered that breakages are often
difficult to detect because the ends of the broken wire remain in their primitive
position and do not protrude from the surface of the rope. The main parameters
to be used to determine the need for rope replacement are:

· 6 visible breaks over a length equal to 30 times the rope diameter

· 3 or more breaks found near the rope closure in the sleeves or in the
other locking systems
· 3 or more broken wires are found in a single strand on a length equal
to 10 times the diameter of the rope
· more broken wires are found on two adjacent strands on a length equal
to 10 times the rope diameter

Pilot cable check

a) The device must be checked from inside the car once the fitted wall has been removed;
unless otherwise indicated the movement of the machine must be done with the
inspection maneuver

b) Check the integrity of the pilot cable through entire its length; if signs of deterioration
are found, the cable must be replaced

Checking the correct operation of the safety gear device

a) The device must be checked from inside the car once the fitted wall has been removed;
unless otherwise indicated the movement of the machine must be done with the
inspection maneuver

b) Check that all components are free to move and not worn
c) Check the lubrication of the supports
d) Correct operation verification

WF and A05 frame model

3. Cut-off the power supply, acting with manual pump of the pump unit to lift the cabin of
40/50cm.
4. Get into the cabin and verify the clearance to access to rope fixed arm (If not enough
clearance, move the cabin up or down in order to find the proper space).
5. Loose the rope on the fixed arm of the pillar, up to the safety gear switch got open
(Visual check).
6. Get off the cabin and close the landing door.
7. Make and emergency manual lowering acting on the proper device on the pump unit.
8. Get into the cabin and verify the safety gear is actually engaged on the guide rails,
blocking the cabin.
9. Get off the cabin and check the piston doesn’t close while acting on the manual lowering
button/valve on the pump unit.
10. Reset the lift and remake the test on the other rope.

Is suggested to make the test with 2 operators

For all the operations with operator not in the cabin, is necessary to close the
door in order to avoid any potential access.

Checking the floor doors and locks devices

a) Check the wear of the moving components and the doors clearance.
b) Check that the door hinge does not show signs of subsiding
c) Check that the release spring is able to completely close the door when left open and
that the vibration damper (when present) is able to brake the final closing movement
d) Check that the doors open and close without being forced
e) Move the system (up or down) and check that the car stops as soon as the locking device
is opened with the emergency key. Repeat the test for each door
f) Check the correct functioning of the emergency key and the subsequent automatic re-
locking when the key is removed

automatic re-opening device if the doors hit an obstacle during the closing phase
b) For motorized hinged doors, check that, in the event of an impact of the door with an
obstacle during the opening and closing phases, the direction of movement is inverted
to allow the area affected by the movement of the door to be freed.

Checking for oil leaks in the circuit

Inspect the connections and fittings of the piston valve group and of the piping to check that
there are no oil leaks

Ø Proceed as indicated in the installation and maintenance manual of the supplier of the
hydraulic part

Checking the oil flexible piping

Check the integrity of the flexible piping along its entire length; in the event of damages (even
superficial or leaks), it is necessary to replace the piping.
