2.3: insurance
Insurance can be self-insurance which means every worker has his own insurance to provide
the medical intervention in any injury case or instruction insurance which means any injury
cases in the site boundaries are under this insurance and it pays the treatment costs even if the
injured person is an individual and moved inside the site.

Construction site
3.1: The residence
The construction site took a place on a land of 40 x 26.25 m2, a residence will be constructed
on this land. This residence contains an underground parking area, ground floor, 7 floors, and
finally the roof. Every floor from the 1st till the 7th has 4 apartments with balconies, and
from the underground, till the roof, there is a place for 2 elevators, And finally the stairs for
the whole residence.
Figure 2 Figure 3

3.2: AutoCAD drawings
every construction has AutoCAD drawings that describe all the dimensions and it has a table
that describes the reinforcement steel quantity that has to be used in every floor and column,
for example, this report will be covering the first floor, in figure 4, the table is showing the
length and width of everything and how money steel should be used in columns and beams
and a lot of information about dimensions, Figure 5 is showing dimensions of columns and
elevator rooms and in figure 6 it's giving the floor dimensions such as rooms, stairs, and
balconies. Finally figure 7 is showing the number of ingredients, for example, T = 14 means
the thickness of layer slab and 6y10/m means 6 steels and their radius is 10. So learning what
is written on draws is so important otherwise engineers will be lost.

Column procedure
The first step is starting with the last step in building a floor which is concrete curing.
The Last step is putting water on the concrete and wait for it until it cures, and with the
curing, the floor will be done.

4.2: wooden frame
before doing any procedure on the columns even before installing reinforced steel there has to
be a wooden frame to keep the dimensions of the columns safe otherwise there will be a
problem with it and the columns can be bigger or smaller than what it needs to be, and this
may cause a problem later.
Figure 9
Wooden frame
4.3: surveying
A surveying engineer is an engineer who uses an equipment to get the elevations, sizes, and
dimensions of the construction site.
This engineer is so important especially in buildings sites because he is the one who is getting
the height of every floor with using an equipment calls level.
Figure 10

4.4: installing reinforcement steel
Before installing reinforcement steel the welder starts tying the amount of steel that has to be
used in the columns as the responsible engineer says or as the AutoCAD drawing says then
its the crane’s mission to carry it to the floor that it will be installed at.
Figure 11 Figure 12
Figure 13 Figure 14

4.6: Covering the column
covering the column is important to be able to pure concrete otherwise the concrete will spell
all around the steel and will not be in the steel to make a column.
Figure 15
Covering steel
While covering an engineer is coming to check the quantity of the steel that has been installed
to the column and its balance to be sure that its straight to not have any problems later This
cover is made of wooden blocks installed on the wooden frame that was installed at the
begging and wooden bars to support the wooden blocks. And to support all these there steel
bars are used to make these woodblocks stronger to be able to afford the pressure of the
concrete while it's pouring.
Figure 16

4.7: puring concrete
At the beginning of this process, workers are putting water into the covered columns to help
the concrete to cure, which means keeping concrete moist helps the curing process. Because
hardens concrete is a result of a chemical reaction between cement and water which calls
hydration and due to hot weather a lot of water can be gone due to evaporation and the makes
hardening slower.
Figure 17
Watering columns
Then a concrete pump is coming to start pouring the concrete into the columns, and while
pouring the concrete there is a device which is the vibrator, this device mission is to vibrate
inside the column while pouring the concrete to vibrate the air bubbles out and to distribute
the concrete in a good way into the column. After that, there is the time set and this is the
time that the concrete needs to harden and it depends from a country to a country due to
weather.

4.8: Result
After pouring the concrete and giving it the time it needs to harden, workers start to remove
the armor they put on the reinforcement steel before pouring the concrete which includes
wooden blocks, wooden bars, and steel bars.
The result of all these procedures is a concrete column that can handle the weight and the
pressure of a 7 floors building.

roof procedure
the second step to make a floor is to cover it, to make a roof for it which needs multiple steps
to complete it
5.1: lifting
To start building a roof a foundation is a must condition, to make a roof for the floor an
equipment called jack support for construction is used, this equipment's mission is to lift a
load to able the workes to do their jobs on the roof which is not there yet. And after setting it
up by connecting it to each other, workers start to set on it a metal calls steel beams which are
used to support trusses and support the structure to afford more strength.
To complete this foundation and to be safe as much as it can, wooden bars are set above the
steel beams and it's installed to put above it the wooden blocks to install on it the
reinforcement steel which is needed to build the roof.
Figure 24
Roof foundation
17 | P a g e
5.2: stairs
Doing stairs is as doing roof or columns it needs to get the dimensions of the stairs first then
by putting the wooden block to be a foundation for the stairs after that he reinforcement steel
will be installed on the block and with a wooden bar as the dimensions show the steps of the
stairs will be done..
Figure 25
Stairs foundation
Stairs have to be in this condition until the roof is ready to be poured with concrete at the
same time stairs will be poured too, otherwise bringing the concrete pump twice will be more
expensive.
18 | P a g e
5.3: reinforcment steel installment for roof
after everything is ready and safe a crane is coming to carry the steel again but this time for
the roof and after the installment the workers start to tie the steel with the dimensions which
they have to consider, after that the responsible engineer comes and check everything to be
sure that everything is perfect.

Conclusion
To sum up, three rules in engineering has to be followed which is whatever the engineer does
it has to be affordable, safe, and fixable, and the construction process increases the
experience in many fields such as knowledge and teamwork, knowledge is not finishing in
construction sites especially by working with different engineers always that can give and
increase the knowledge by exchanging experience in the field. it teaches teamwork too
especially if it's a big project and has 500 workers and 5 engineers at least, if there will be no
teamwork and the work atmosphere is not healthy it will cause a big problem for the
construction. Understanding the technical side became so much easier after this experience.
Moreover, the gained information from the theoretical knowledge from university was so
helpful to understand what is happening on-site and as a result of this experience the
theoretical and the technical knowledge that civil engineer has to know on-site became much
more easier to talk about.
