CLASSROOM STRATEGIES FOR TANVI

Dear ma’am/sir,
Following are some strategies/recommendations which can be useful for Tanvi in the classroom
environment.

 Establish a consistent daily routine with clear expectations and rules. If possible, hang
up visual schedules in the class. This will help Tanvi to better manage her time, know
what to expect, and reduces impulsivity.
 Provide clear and concise instructions, breaking down tasks into smaller steps.
 Go very near to the child and keep hand on her head/shoulder/hand so she knows that she
has to stop the undesired behaviour.
 Mention positive instructions rather than negative (eg- instead of saying "Dont put finger
in the mouth', say "keep your hands on the table")
 Create a reward system that emphasizes positive behaviour. Tanvi works very well with
reinforcers. Offer specific praise, rewards, or privileges for following rules, completing
tasks, and displaying appropriate behaviour.
 Implement behaviour management techniques such as time-outs, loss of privileges, or
a token system for inappropriate behaviours. Consistency and clear consequences are
essential.
 Incorporate regular breaks and physical activities throughout the day. Exercise/sports
can help manage hyperactive symptoms and release excess energy, reducing impulsivity
and improving focus.
 She will benefit from wearing weighted jackets to manage hyperactive symptoms.
 Teach and reinforce social skills such as active listening, turn-taking, sharing, and
problem-solving. Role-playing and modelling appropriate behaviour can be helpful in
improving social interactions.
