Journal of my vinyl project:

1. The first thing I did for my laser project was figure out what I was going to cut. I decided to cut
stickers for my MW/WW 10 box project's sides and home-keeping. I wanted to do this by making
a sticker of my name and putting it onto the box, as well as a 3D printer and the same glasses I
used in the laser project.

2. The next thing I did was go online and find an image of a printer that I liked. When I found a
suitable image that would work to be cut as stickers, I saved it. While finding the image I wanted
to ensure that the image was a vector, or monochrome image, as those would fit best for cut. I
used the same glasses image as they would work, being the same monochrome vector image.
My name was made in Inkscape with simple black text, I then created a 12” by 12” paper and
fitted as much stuff as I could onto it.

3. After I made my images, I saved them onto a USB stick, following the guide Mr. Speirs made, and
loaded them onto Graphtec on one of the vinyl computers. I set the size of the page to 12” by
12”, the size of the images to 12” by 12” and then traced the image and deleted the original
image. Once I was done with that, I opened the send panel.
4. After that I loaded the vinyl into the vinyl cutter, clamped it down on the wheels, and pressed 1
to get the cutter to sense where and how big the vinyl sheet was.

5. Once everything was ready, I sent the file through, and the vinyl cutter began cutting away, but
sooner than later, we all realized that the size was not in fact 12” by 12” for the cutting area, it
was 11.5” by 12”, so safer to do 11” by 11” cuts in the future.

6. Once I had completed the vinyl cutting, I started the process of weeding out all the little bits so
my stickers could stick onto surfaces and be the entire sticker, instead of a flat brown sticker with
cuts in it. I ensured I did not poke or cut myself with the weeding tools and did a goo job
weeding.

7. For the final step, I would apply masking tape to the front of the stickers unless they were one
piece, and then stick them onto any surface I want, being able to use water if I’m doing anything
that needs to be super precise so I can move the sticker around while I am applying it. Once I
decide to use my sticker, I would put some making tape on it, and use a squeegee to get out all
and any bubbles that may exist inside the sticker.
