MALI

Animals should be treated correctly. They have the rights to live in this world too. We are in the world so
this means that our lives has an end. We can live but not forever. The best example for this is Mali the
elephant in the Philippines.

Vishwa Ma’ali or commonly known as Mali is an elephant who lived at Manila Zoo in Manila Philippines.
She was born in Sri Lanka and was given to First Lady Imelda Marcos by Sri Lankan Government in 1977
as a gift. Mali lived for almost 40 years in the Philippines. Sadly, Mali died on November 28, 2023 at 3:45
p.m. They said that the cause of death of Mali pancreatic cancer, as well as a blockage in her aorta.
For me, government should put Mali to the Elephant Sanctuary like what People for the Ethical
Treatment of Animals said and not let Mali live at Manila Zoo. Animals have different types and ways of
living. We cannot force them to live in a certain place that is not good for their health. I think Mali didn’t
get a check-up for her latest body condition, because if she got a check-up the would have known that
Mali has that type of cancer. Lastly, I believe that Mali got that health problem because she is alone. She
doesn’t have someone that she can accompany with. In simple term she is with other animals but not
the same as her which is an elephant. That’s why Mali is also called as the saddest elephant because she
was the only captive elephant in the Philippines and lived alone at the zoo for decades.

Mali made the Filipnos happy for decades. She will be forever in the hearts of the Filipnos. We should let
animals live to the right place they should be for them to live longer.
