Driveshaft Exam
Driveshaft Exam
1.The drive shaft is the connection between the gearbox and the rear axle of RWD vehicle.
2.Some companies call the driveshaft shaft other names such as Propeller shaft and
intermediate shaft
3.The critical length for the steel drive shaft is 165 cm and after this length we need to
use support bearing
5.Drive shaft balance should be within 0.5% of the weight of the column.
7.The drive shaft should contain u-joint to allow it to make angle and slip joints to allow it
to make axial offset
8.To avoid gimbal error the two u-joints must be in the same direction (same/opposite).
11.The double u-joint allow us to make a deviation angle up to 50 degrees but it does
not allow any axial offsets
12.Ball joints allow angles of deviation up to 38° for normal types and up to 47° for
special types but it also does not allow any axial offsets
14.The Unequal-length drive axle shaft problem is This shaft generates different angles of
deviation on the front\ axle relative to the wheels and we solve this problem by using by
adding intermediate shaft
to make the angles of the deviation equal between the axle and the wheels.
