Testing Instruction For Kits
Testing Instruction For Kits
Testing Instruction For Kits
Scope
The instruction concerns assembly of Alfa Laval’s Kits assortment. Only gasketed plate heat exchanges (PHE) according to PED Category 0 or
ALS shall follow this instruction.
Manufacturing responsibility
The manufacturing ownership and quality responsibility are tightly connected to the company that does the assembly (named as “manufacturer”
in the rest of the document). Alfa Laval will be stated in form of the logo on the nameplate. There is a space on the name plate marked
“Manufacturer”. When the heat exchanger is assembled by anyone else than Alfa Laval, the name of the company that does the assembly
should be stated under “Manufacturer”.
Assembly
The manufacturer must follow an ISO standard 9001 or 9002. The following quality assurance activities shall be carried out:
Pressure test
Each PHE must be pressure tested before delivery from the manufacturer. Pressure test shall be done according to the following instructions:
Primary side: Single sided pressure testing of the primary side at a holding time of 10 minutes. The holding times must be noted on the Quality
Card or the similar document. The secondary side shall be kept open for visual inspection of the portholes for internal leakage.
Secondary side: Single sided pressure testing of the secondary side at a holding time of 10 minutes. The holding times must be noted on the
Quality Card or the similar document. The primary side shall be kept open for visual inspection of the portholes for internal leakage.
Note: Test pressure = 1.3 x design pressure. If the customer order contains any special requirements regarding
pressure test then those are to be carried out. Different holding time, double sided pressure
testing are examples of special requirements.
After each step a visual inspection must be performed to detect leakage, gasket/plate deformation or other
abnormal changes.
– Material marking and heat number of pressure retaining frame parts and
channel plates
– Results of assembly
– Pressure test hold time
– Manometer number
– Result of pressure test
– Assembly and test date
– Signature of assembly responsible person
In addition, the quality inspector has to check whether the plate heat exchanger is built in accordance with the demands from the calculation
drawing regarding choice of material and design pressure and temperature. If there are any remarks to be made regarding above then the
production and technical responsible person must be informed. They must evaluate whether further actions need to be taken.
Name plate
Relevant product data must be included in the name plate (see example in appendix II).
