ABSTRACT

It is very important to know more about hard disk, so that we would be able
to understand what role hard disk play when troubleshooting,

A hard drive is the hardware component that stores all of your digital
content. Your documents, pictures, music, videos, programs, application
preferences, and operating system represent digital content stored on a
hard drive. Hard drives can be external or internal. In further more we are
going to discourse the role of hard disk in computer troubleshooting

They can store operating systems, software programs and other files using
magnetic disks. More specifically, hard disk drives control the reading and
writing of the hard disk that provides data storage. HDDs are used either as
the primary or secondary storage device in a computer.

1.6 Definition of terms

1.6.0 HARD DISK: A hard disk drive (HDD), hard disk, hard drive, or fixed disk,
is an electro-mechanical data storage device that stores and retrieves digital data
using magnetic storage with one or more rigid rapidly rotating platters coated with
magnetic material.

Important of hard disk: Storage devices like hard disks are needed to install
operating systems, programs and additional storage devices, and to save
documents. Without devices like HDDs that can retain data after they have been
turned off, computer users would not be able to store programs or save files or
documents to their computers.

1.6.1 STORAGE CAPACITY: The primary function of a hard drive is to store

files, and the storage capacity defines how much can be stored on a single drive. A
typical hard drive for a new computer has a storage capacity of 500 GB (gigabytes)
up to 1 TB (terabyte).

1.6.2 MAJOR TYPES OF HARD DISK:

 Parallel Advanced Technology Attachment (PATA)

 Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA)
 Small Computer System Interface (SCSI)
 Solid State Drive (SSD)
Troubleshooting: is a systematic approach to solving a problem. The goal of
troubleshooting is to determine why something does not work as expected and
explain how to resolve the problem.

1.7 The project report Organization

This project report is organized into five chapters. The first chapter covers the
introduction, objective, scope, justification, and statement of the project and
definition of terms.
